The funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Waugh-Yokum Funeral Home. The Rev. P. M. Cowen will officiate and burial will be in the Highland Cemetery. on April 20, 1977.1

He married Clara P. Niemeyer at LaHarpe, Kan., March 8, 1933. They farmed there until 1936, when they moved to Emmett. They lived there a short time, then came to Nampa. Shortly after coming to Nampa, they moved to Melba where they lived until 1941 when they returned to Nampa. He had been employed at the Armour and Co. Meat Packing Plant (formerly King's Packing Co.) since 1941 as a meat smoker. He was the secretary of the Nampa Trade and Labor Council for the past 10 years, and was serving as president of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butchers Workmen, Local No. 38, of North America. He was also a member of the Colfax Baptist Church in Kansas. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Eva Langrell, Bartlett, Ill; a sister, Mrs. Lola Mae Wiles, Chanute, Kan; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Hart, also of Chanute, and two grandsons and two nieces. on July 7, 1966.4

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Springfield, Cary, NC, and Cheryl Hurlbert, Chanute, KS; a stepson, Marvin Rose, Iola, KS; a stepdaughter, Sharon Bruner, Neosho Falls, KS; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Graveside services will be at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery (Greenlawn), Chanute, Kansas, under the direction of Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels, Iola, KS. on October 12, 2007.2

     Verda Belle "Dottie" Maley Verda Belle Petersen, 91 of Pomona, KS passed away March 2, 2016 at her home. She was born March 26, 1924 in Neosho Falls, KS the daughter of Harry Maley and Verda (Harris) Maley. She was a lifelong Kansas resident and had lived in Pomona for the past thirty years. She moved to Pomona after her retirement from Strassers Hardware where she had been the manager for seventeen years. Verda was raised a Baptist and was very strong in her beliefs, reading her bible daily. She taught and raised her children to be followers of God; she had a gentle touch and loving heart for all her family and friends as well as anyone in need of anything, even if it was just a hug or a pat on the back. In 1954 Verda was united in marriage to William Donald Petersen in Kansas City, Kansas. She gave Him five children three of which are still living close to her in Pomona. In her early years Verda studied nursing and during World War II volunteered for the U. S. government to care for the soldiers coming home injured from the war. She loved to read and she had many talents, Verda made beautiful quilts, and embroidered pieces. She made crocheting look easy. Verda loved jigsaw puzzles and talked often of her young life on the farm outside of Moran, KS She loved flowers, birds, her dog skip and beamed anytime the little children were close to her. She was a strong woman in many ways and had talents that not everyone possesses. She will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; daughter, Verda Joy Parks; son, Harry Petersen; two brothers, Roy R. Maley, Bobby D. Maley; and two grandchildren. Surviving family include her son, William D. Petersen, Pomona; two daughters, Ardonna Smith, Pomona, Sherri Gott, Pomona; twenty grandchildren; and thirty-five great grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1:30p.m., Saturday prior to the service at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Memorial contributions are suggested to Children’s Mercy Hospital and sent in c/o Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa, KS 66067.2 She was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Franklin Co., Kansas.2 She was born on March 26, 1924 at Neosho Falls, Woodson Co., Kansas.2,4 As of 1954,her married name was Petersen.2 She married William Donald Petersen in 1954.2 Verda Belle "Dottie" Maley died on March 28, 2016 at Pomona, Franklin Co., Kansas, at age 92.2,4
