Verda Belle "Dottie" Maley Verda Belle Petersen, 91 of Pomona, KS passed away March 2, 2016 at her home. She was born March 26, 1924 in Neosho Falls, KS the daughter of Harry Maley and Verda (Harris) Maley. She was a lifelong Kansas resident and had lived in Pomona for the past thirty years. She moved to Pomona after her retirement from Strassers Hardware where she had been the manager for seventeen years. Verda was raised a Baptist and was very strong in her beliefs, reading her bible daily. She taught and raised her children to be followers of God; she had a gentle touch and loving heart for all her family and friends as well as anyone in need of anything, even if it was just a hug or a pat on the back. In 1954 Verda was united in marriage to William Donald Petersen in Kansas City, Kansas. She gave Him five children three of which are still living close to her in Pomona. In her early years Verda studied nursing and during World War II volunteered for the U. S. government to care for the soldiers coming home injured from the war. She loved to read and she had many talents, Verda made beautiful quilts, and embroidered pieces. She made crocheting look easy. Verda loved jigsaw puzzles and talked often of her young life on the farm outside of Moran, KS She loved flowers, birds, her dog skip and beamed anytime the little children were close to her.
