He was predeceased by his mother, Patsy Lauterbach, and a brother, Hank Lauterbach. on June 1, 2000.⁴

He was born in Bertie County June 27, 1943 to the late Louis and Evelyn Lee Beach DeMasse. Sammy was a retired heavy equipment operator and member of Union of Operating Engineers Local 147. He also was a used car dealer and salesman. Survivors include a son, Scott DeMasse and wife Melissa of Broomfield, Colo; stepson, Mike Bridgeman and wife Becky of Shawboro, N.C; brothers, Joseph DeMasse of Merry Hill, N.C., and Louis Lee and wife Debbie of Plymouth, N.C; his life partner, Robin Thackston of Portsmouth and her children, Amanda, Candace, Crystal, Bruce and Alita; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat of 16 years, Taz. on May 27, 2010.³

     Eleanor Louise Dooley was buried at Dooley Cemetery, Oak Hill, Fayette Co., West Virginia.¹ She was born on November 6, 1912 at Salem, Fayette Co., West Virginia.¹ She died on May 21, 1913 at Fayette Co., West Virginia.¹

     Her Social Security Number was 240-36-9038.² Ernestine Morgan was buried at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, Virginia.³ Her married name was Coleman.¹ She married George Linzie "Jack" Coleman, son of James Nathan "Nate" Coleman and Eleanor Mae Dooley.^1,3 Ernestine Morgan was born on July 10, 1917 at Lexington, Davidson Co., North Carolina.^3,2 She died on December 24, 1999 at Newport News, Virginia, at age 82.^3,4,2 She Ernestine Morgan Coleman, 82, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999. A native of Lexington, N.C., she had been a resident of Newport News for 30 years. She was a nurse for the Veterans Administration for 23 years and retired from Kecoughtan Medical Center, where she worked as a drug and alcohol rehabilitation nurse. She was an active member of Deer Park Baptist Church and its senior choir. Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Coleman Sr. Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Covington of Achilles and Donna Drew of Cumberland, R.I; her son, George L. Coleman Jr. of White Marsh; six grandchildren, Deena Mariniak of Newport News, Chris Covington, Michelle Brown and George Coleman III, all of Gloucester, and Jeff Yost and Tanya Rao of Cumberland, R.I; seven great-grandchildren, Michael and Hanna Mariniak, Jacob and Cody Brown, Cheyenne Davis-Covington and Linzie Coleman and Andrea Rao; one sister, Lorraine Thompson of Lexington, N.C; and one brother, John Morgan of Miami. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday by the Rev. Frederick Forry at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. on December 26, 1999.³
