She was a member of the Gatewood Missionary Baptist Church and was born in Dempsey, Fayette County. Surviving are four daughters, Miss Gladys Epperly, at home, Mrs. Blanche Wheeler and Mrs. Louise Poff, both of Minden, and Mrs. Clyde Howell of Huntington; four sons, Fred of Scarbro, Earl of Fayetteville, Oscar of Oak Hill and Howard of Rensford; a sister, Mrs. Ida Epperly of Oak Hill; two brothers, Charles Burnside of Morgantown and Price Burnside of Milton; 37 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Epperly Cemetery at Laurel Creek. on November 22, 1951.4

Born June 10, 1925, at Gatewood, he was the son of the late Earl Owen Epperly and Mary Louise (Moses) Epperly. He also was preceded in death by his loving, wife Rosia Belle Epperly, and brothers, Doug Epperly and Myles Epperly. He was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a World War II Navy veteran. During his military service he received the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. After the war, he returned to Fayette County. He worked for Epperly Motor Freight Company in Fayetteville, and he served 30 years as a deputy sheriff in Fayette County before retiring. Surviving: sons, Randolph Thomas Epperly Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Oak Hill, John Earl Epperly and his wife, Clara, of Richmond, Va., and Michael Wayne Epperly and his wife, Kathy, of Pittsburgh, Pa; sisters, Margarite Null of Fayetteville, Jean Hunt and her husband, Keith, of Hico, Barbara McGuffin and her husband, Emory, of Oak Hill, Betty Nahodil and her husband, Bob, of Jumping Branch, and Shirley Shumaker and her husband, Ray, of Ravenswood; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Entombment followed in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with military rites conducted by the Oak Hill V.F.W. Post 3110. on December 26, 2012.3

     Robert L. "Bob" Nahodil was buried at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, Fayette Co., West Virginia.3,4 He Robert Lee Nahodil, 88 of Nimitz, WV went to be with the Lord Saturday August 12, 2017 following a long illness. Robert was born on May 7, 1929 in Minden, WV to the late Joseph and Mary Tatum Nahodil. He and his many siblings were raised in Oak Hill. Robert married Betty Jo Epperly on July 25th, 1955. Together, they had one child, a son, Gregory L. Nahodil who along with Betty Jo survive Bob. Robert was a graduate of Oak Hill High School and Morris Harvey College in Charleston. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a former sheriff’s deputy in Fayette County under Doug Epperly. Robert retired as a Conservation Officer for the WVDNR, serving for more than 20 years in both Fayette and Summers Counties, amongst many other exciting jobs. He received many rewards for his hard work and dedication. Anyone who knew him would tell you he was an extremely hard worker and good person. Bob was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Joseph; his brother, William Nahodil and two sisters, Anna Ruth and Lucille. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Betty Jo Epperly Nahodil; son, Gregory L. Nahodil; three grandchildren, Brittany L. Nahodil, Corey B. Nahodil and Ryne T. Nahodil, along with two beloved great grandchildren, Mallorie Brown and Bryceson L. Brown. Robert will be missed dearly. He was and always will be loved dearly. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will; Corey and Ryne Nahodil, Charles Moten and J. P. He was born on June 28, 1932, in Caperton, WV, son of the late Ira and Catherine Henley Shumaker. Ray was a 1951 graduate of Fayetteville High School where he received All State Honorable Mention in football and held the scoring record in basketball for over 40 years. He coached little league baseball for 15 years, and midget league basketball and football for 12 years. He played competition basketball in his late fifties, and he enjoyed golfing. He loved his grandkids and great grandkids. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corp in Ravenswood. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Shumaker of Ravenswood; sons, Stephen Shumaker of Scott Depot, WV, Brent Shumaker and Tim Shumaker, both of Ravenswood; 2 sisters, Imogene Hambrick of Ripley, WV, and Iris Capelety of Elyria, OH; grandchildren, Tessa, Jared and Michael Shumaker, Chelsie Painter and Meghan Easterly; and great grandchildren, Bryan Lutz and Isaeh Stark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest son, Michael Ray Shumaker.      Ida Texas Virginia Burnside was buried at Epperly Cemetery (also known as Dempsey Cemetery), Dempsey, Fayette Co., West Virginia.2,5 She was born on September 6, 1881 at Dempsey, Fayette Co., West Virginia.1 As of December 29, 1903,her married name was Epperly.6 She married Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Epperly, son of Preston E. Epperly and Octava "Octavia" Beckelheimer, on December 29, 1903 at Fayette Co., West Virginia.1,2,6 Ida Texas Virginia Burnside died on March 26, 1958 at Oak Hill, Fayette Co., West Virginia, at age 76.1 She Mrs. Ida T. Burnside Epperly, 76, of Oak Hill died Wednesday at her home after a long illness. She was a member of the Doggett Chapel near Fayetteville. Survivors include her husband, B. F. (Pop); a brother, J. P. Burnside of Wilmington. Del; six sons, Basil of Russell, Ky; Louis of Mount Hope; Arnold of Fayetteville; Martin of Greenville, S. C; Ralph of Detroit; and Leslie of Niceville, Fla.: four daughters. Mrs. H. S. Gill of Beckley; Mrs. Lonnie Stevens of Fayetteville; and Mrs. C. E. Williams and Mrs. Joe Elkins, both of Oak Hill; 44 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the family cemetery near Fayetteville. on March 27, 1958.2

Jerry D. of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lewis D. of Union Town, Ohio, and Roger of Mount Hope; three daughters, Mrs. Patsy Lepto of Beckley and Miss Debra Epperly and Miss Reva Epperly, both of Mount Hope; three brothers, Arnold of Fayetteville, Ralph of Alderson and Leslie of Canal Falton, Ohio, and four sisters, Mrs. Arevela Gill of Beckley, Mrs. Evelyn Stevens of Dothan, and Mrs. Kathleen Williams and Mrs. Alma Elkins, both of Oak Hill. Burial will be in the Epperly Cemetery at Route 2, Fayetteville. on April 12, 1974.5
