He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillian Beckner; five sons, Tommy, Oliver, Jr., Michael, Carl and Harry Lee Beckner; three daughters, Misses Janice, Melinda and Melody Sue Beckner, all at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry A. Beckner of Hardy; three brothers, Cabble Beckner, Robert Beckner, both of Roanoke; Charles Beckner of Mill; four sisters, Mrs. Buelah Huffman, Mrs. Edith Russeau and Mrs. Hetty Jordon, all of Roanoke; Mrs. Lucy Bush of Hardy. Interment in Murray Cemetery, Roanoke County. on August 12, 1974.3

     Charles Edward Pauley Charles Edward "Sam" Pauley, 70, of St. Albans, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, April 3, 2017, at CAMC-Teays Valley following a long illness. Born November 18, 1946, in St. Albans, he was a son of the late Fred Harold and Betty Marie Eggleton Pauley. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vanessa; sisters, Judy Smith and Mary Jo Pauley; brothers, M. Jeff and Ray Pauley; as well as three nephews, Eddie Lowe, Richard Pauley and Ricky Smith. Charles, or Sam as he was also known, was a longtime resident of St. Albans, loving the City. He retired as a self-employed Certified Public Accountant and this past January, celebrated the 15th anniversary of his Baptism. Surviving are his children, Brian Pauley (Kelly) of Dothan, AL, Keith Pauley (Michelle) of Warren, OH, Charlene Armstead (Mike) of Culloden, Sarah Pauley of Culloden; sisters, Faye Holley (Darrell), Carol Jane Rogers (Lionel), Stella Hale (Kenny), and Cynthia Cleek, all of St. Albans; brother, H. Wayne Pauley (Kim) of St. Albans; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and 22 nieces and nephews. Also surviving are good friends and neighbors, Fred and Linda Samson and Karen Johnson, as well as his feline friends whom he loved dearly, Sammy, Jeffy, Precious and Annie.2 He was born on November 18, 1946 at St. Albans, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.1,2 He married Doris Jean Pauley, daughter of Lonnie Ross "Ross" Pauley and Eva Edna Poff, on October 26, 1976 at Pearisburg, Giles Co., Virginia.1 Charles Edward Pauley died on April 3, 2017 at Hurricane, Putnam Co., West Virginia, at age 70.2

Born at Lamar, he was a son of Kathleen Copley Thomas of Matoaka and the late Raymond Burnell Thomas. He was a former heavy equipment operator last working for the I.C. Lilly Coal Co., and was a member of the District 29 and the UMWA Local 8784. He was of the Methodist faith. He was preceded in death by one sister, Shelby Tiller.
