Burnett, age 90 of Rocky Mount passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015. She was born in Ferrum, VA. to Raymond and Mary Whitehead. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cletis Burnett; her brother, Buck Whitehead; and her sister, Estelle Olson. Gloria grew up in Ferrum and attended Ferrum Training School, now Ferrum College and Western Maryland College in Westminster, Maryland. Gloria was married to her husband Cletis for 63 years. She worked in the family retail business for many years until her husband’s health started to fail. She tirelessly cared for her husband for his more than 20 years of poor health until his passing in 2007. Gloria was a lifelong member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church where she was a choir member for several years. Her church family was very important to her and she spoke often of the many outings she enjoyed with her church friends. Gloria, her mother and grandmother all enjoyed playing the piano and at age 90, still played remarkably well. Gloria is survived by her son, John (Ken) Burnett and wife Jeannette; grandsons, Brian and wife Angela, Michael and wife Gena and three precious great-grandsons.      Margie Louise Bradford Margie Louise Bradford Burnett, 93, of Rocky Mount, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, May 15, 2016. She was born November 1, 1922, in Lamesa, Texas, a daughter of the late Alice and Lee Bradford. Margie graduated from Lamesa High School in 1940, and then in 1943 she met and married John Burnett Jr. (Johnny) when he was stationed during World War II in her hometown. In 1944 their only child was born, Dan Burnett. Johnny and Margie owned and operated many businesses, but they were best known for owning and running "The Corner Grill". Margie was an outstanding cook and seamstress. She and Johnny enjoyed traveling, especially in their motorhome. Margie was a member of Rocky Mount Christian Church for 59 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Burnett; and her son, Dan Burnett. Surviving are her two devoted grandchildren, David Burnett and Sheri Burnett; and her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Allen Burnett.      Dan Thomas Burnett Dan Burnett, 69, of Rocky Mount, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013. He was an employee of the Franklin County School System for 36 years. He was a faithful and loyal Hokie for 51 years. He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Burnett Jr. Surviving are wife of 46 years, Carolyn Allen Burnett; son, David M. Burnett; daughter, Sheri L. Burnett; mother, Margie Burnett; and his three canine companions, Bo, Tucker, and Presley. Dan received his Bachelor of Science from Lynchburg College and his Master's Degree from Virginia Tech. He was a true southern gentleman whose wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed. Born in Franklin County, Oct. 8, 1912, he was the son of the late John Tyler and Onie Burnett Prillaman. He attended Franklin County Schools and had been employed at Bassett Mirror Co. for seven years. Prillaman served in the Army in the Philippines from 1934 to 1937 and in World War II from 1942 until December 1945 as a corporal. He had been a member of the Bassett American Legion Post 11 for 34 years; was a member of the Bassett Moose Lodge and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. N. H. Hairston of Pocahontas Trail, Bassett, where he made his home; one brother, H. Glen Prillaman of Rocky Mount; and a niece and a nephew. Glen was Owner-President of Starr Chevrolet in Buchanan from 1955 to 1966 and President of Prillaman Pontiac, Olds, and Buick from 1967 to 1988, and upon retirement was co-owner of Prillaman, Inc. During his life-long career of selling cars, he was also a member of the Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce. He was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the U.S. Navy. Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Henebry Prillaman; parents, John Tyler and Onie Burnett Prillaman; sister, Evelyn Hairston; and brother, Guy Prillaman. Surviving to cherish his memory are his son, G. Michael Prillaman, Rocky Mount; daughter Susan P. Smith, Ridgeway; grandchildren Leigh Anna Smith, Knoxville, Tenn., William Tyler Smith, Ridgeway; great-grandson, William Maxwell Smith, Ridgeway. Interment will follow in the Burnett Family cemetery in Ferrum. Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband of 59 years, H. Glen Prillaman; daughter, Susan Smith of Ridgeway; son, Michael Prillaman of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Leigh Anna Smith of Roanoke and William Tyler Smith of Ridgeway; and her special bridge buddies.      William Clarence Smith III William "Billy" Clarence Smith III, 48, of 156 Bouldin Road, Ridgeway, died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at his home. He was born in Martinsville on July 27, 1956, to William "Bill" Clarence Smith Jr. and Nancy R. Smith of Horsepasture.
Smith graduated from Virginia Tech in 1978 and was an entrepreneur farmer and builder. He was an Eagle Scout, and a member of both the Horsepasture Ruritan Club and the Horsepasture Christian Church. Surviving are a daughter, Anna Smith of Radford; a son, Tyler Smith of the residence; three sisters, Martha Anderson of Roanoke, Sue Hane of Raleigh, N.C., and Lee Robison of Roanoke. The funeral will be held at Horsepasture Christian Church. William Tyler Smith of Horsepasture, age 29, departed this life on January 26, 2017 and is now at peace and is part of God’s Heavenly Kingdom. Tyler, a 2006 graduate of Magna Vista High School, attended Ferrum College and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved everything about the outdoors and had been living and working at Quiet Creek Farm in Irvine, Kentucky for almost 2 years. Quiet Creek was a good place for Tyler. It afforded him an environment enabling him to work, and be a part of nature as he thought about and worked through his personal challenges and the direction he wanted to go in overcoming them and using his talents. Tyler loved his family, especially his mother who supported and loved him deeply every day of his life, and his son, Max. He also had a deep and abiding respect for his grandparents. Tyler is survived by his mother, Susan P. Smith, of Ridgeway, his son, William Maxwell Smith, of Stuart, VA., his sister, L. Anna Sullivan and her husband Josh and son Tucker of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by aunts and uncles: Michael Prillaman of Rocky Mount, VA., Brady and Martha Anderson, Churchill and Lee Robison, both of Roanoke, VA., and Tom and Sue Hane of Raleigh, NC, and his cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Clarence Smith, III. Interment will be in the Burnette Prillaman Ross Family cemetery, Ferrum, VA.
