She was retired from Glenwood Park Retirement Village and was formerly employed at the Celanese Corporation in Pearisburg, Va. and Maidenform in Princeton. Mildred was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She and her late husband were lifelong farmers and owned and operated Boothe's Nursery at Glenwood Park until their retirement in 1977. In addition to her parents, her first husband, Lawrence Thomas; her second husband, Oka L. Boothe Sr; one infant grandson; and two brothers, Hobart Akers and Andrew Akers preceded her in death. Survivors include six daughters, Gayle Amick and husband Paul of Nallen, W.Va., Pat Cowan, Loretta Hatcher and husband Chris all of Princeton, Drema Hasse and husband Dave of Lake Areil, Pa., Sharon King and husband Donald, and Rachael Pitcher all of Princeton; one son, Oka L. Boothe, Jr. and wife Sara of Princeton; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Francis Nelson of Troutville, Va. and Ruth Dunn of Princeton. Funeral services were conducted at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 4, 2008 at the George S. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Dan Jividen officiating. Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. on April 12, 2008.1

Jean will always be remembered by family and friends for her gentle manner, kind words to all and her wonderful cookies which she baked every holiday for her family. Jean loved to bake, cook, sew and spend time with her grandchildren, whom she loved and enjoyed with all her heart. Her husband, soul mate and life companion, Robert Shelley, Sr. preceded her in death as well as her eldest child Robert Shelley, Jr. and sister Mae Abinante. Jean leaves behind her brother, who was one of her best friends, Randy Randazzo (Char) of Carmel Valley, sister Ruth (Bill) Murphy of New Mexico and her "little" sister Marie (Tom) Kassing-Mastre of Salinas. Two daughters who will carry on the memory of their mother are Geraldine (Hossein) Vafa and Helen (Brian) Brtan. Jean leaves behind, five grandchildren, one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10am, Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at Struve and Laporte Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories in Salinas. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to VNA Hospice. on May 8, 2007.3
