After graduating from Floyd County High School and National Business College, Betty was employed as a secretary for Colonial Presbyterian Church as well as several local businesses. Betty is survived by her daughter, Donna L. Downs and son, Randall A. Smith, both of Roanoke; grandchildren, Sarah Smith, Amy Beaty, Joshua Downs, Chelsea Hopkins, Meaghan Betancourt, Caleb Smith, and Cody Smith; and eleven great-grandchildren, Cedrick, Jack, Ciera, Cheyenne, Keylonna, Kaeden, Leeland, Charlotte, Khaylix, Alex, and Aurora. Mom was very active in and longtime member of Colonial Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her walks and visiting with neighbors as well as watching her beloved birds and wildlife. She will be greatly missed and forever loved. on November 9, 2021.³

He was born on January 12, 1939 in Floyd County, and was the son of the late Howard Smith and Lois Cornelia Smith. He retired after 23 years of service from Yellow Freight. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Becky Smith.
