Cox, Ella Cox Goad, Carlie Cox, Kenard Cox, Velma Cox Mitchell and Robert Cox. He was a member of the Dinwiddie Presbyterian Church. Mr. Cox was a farmer and served his country during WWII. He served as Worshipful Master of Snowville Lodge 159 and he was also a member of the Pulaski Masonic Lodge. Surviving are, wife, Dovie Huff Cox of Hiwassee; sisters, Edna Cox Hanks of Dublin and Vergie Cox Wright of Hillsville; brother, Eugene Cox of Oregon and many special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Smith and Rev. Levi Humphreys officiating. Burial will follow, in the Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Snowville Masonic Lodge #159 conducting the graveside rites. Visiting will be Wednesday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. The family wishes that memorials be made to the Dinwiddie Presbyterian Church, 2698 Homestead Road, Hillsville, Va. 24343. Mrs. Gardner was born in Carroll County to the late Harrison Lee & Minnie Esther Gwynn Thomas. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Warren Gardner; sons Thomas Delwood Gardner and Warren Calvin Gardner; two brothers; two sisters; and one granddaughter. She is survived by her children Josephine Poindexter & husband Everett of Virginia Beach, Clarence Carson Gardner & wife Ruby of Laurel Fork; Randolph Gardner & wife Ruthie of Mills River, NC, and Murlene Gunter & husband Buford of Hillsville; sister Lessie Arnder of Mount Airy, NC; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor Duane Steele officiating. Burial will follow in the Gladesboro Cemetery.
