     Mary Mabel Hiatt Mrs. Mary Mabel Hiatt Thomas, 85, of Ararat, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Thomas was born in Patrick County, VA, February 15, 1922, to Isaac and Armenda Richmons Hiatt. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Sonny Chappell of Cana, VA, Gail Thomas and Patty and Ricky Bare, all of Ararat, and Betty and Tim Tilley of Pilot Mountain; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Wanda Thomas and Nelson Thomas, all of Ararat, James and Mary Thomas of Winston-Salem, Steve and Kay Thomas of Mt. Airy, and Linda Thomas of Cana, VA; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Carrie Hiatt of Mt. Airy; and a brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Vergie Hiatt of Cana, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Carlie Sherman Thomas, a son, Kenneth Thomas; two infant babies; sisters, Hazel Cline and Hattie Hiatt; and brothers, Arnold Hiatt, Ernest Hiatt and Carnie Hiatt. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 3, 2008 at Wards Gap Church at 2709 Epworth Rd. in Cana, conducted by Linda Thomas and Bro. James Quesinberry. Burial will follow in Willow Hill Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home.
