     Thomas Luther Cannaday Jr. was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, 1300 Mountain View Road, Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia.² He was born on September 25, 1927 at Virginia.^1,5 He married Kathryn Sweeney circa 1947.⁶ Thomas Luther Cannaday Jr. died on May 1, 2007 at Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 79.^5,2 He Thomas Luther Cannaday, Jr., 79, of Vinton, passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, May 1, 2007. He was retired from Superior Carriers and was a member of Hollins Road Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Luther Cannaday, Sr. and Elsie Virginia Cannaday Goins. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Kathryn S. Cannaday; four children and spouses, Douglas (Malinda) Cannaday of Cedar Bluff, Darrell (Elsie) Cannaday, Brenda (Mickey) Bowman, Missy (Mike) Henritze, all of Roanoke; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakeys Vinton Chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2007 with Minister Jim Morris officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Vinton First Aid Crew, c/o P.O. Box 314, Vinton, Va. 24179.      Kathryn Sweeney was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, 1300 Mountain View Road, Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia.¹ She was born on November 19, 1927 at West Virginia.² As of circa 1947,her married name was Cannaday.³ She married Thomas Luther Cannaday Jr., son of Thomas Luther Cannaday and Elsie Virginia Walker, circa 1947.¹ Kathryn Sweeney died on June 30, 2010 at Virginia at age 82.^2,1 She Kathryn S. Cannaday, 82, of Vinton, Va., and formerly of West Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Thomas L. Cannaday Jr; parents, Londa and Texie Sweeney; brothers, John and George Sweeney; and sister, Versie Brammer, of West Virginia. She is survived by sons, Douglas (Malinda) Cannaday, of Cedar Bluff, and Darrell (Elsie) Cannaday, of Roanoke; daughters, Brenda (Mickey) Bowman, of Roanoke, and Michelle "Missy" (Mike) Henritze, of Vinton; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dora Bryant, Ellen Cole, and Ferne Meadows, all of West Virginia, and Maxine Lilly, of Maryland; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family; and faithful loving cats, Bug and Sock. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Chips Doyle officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.      Emelene Mattie Hale was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.¹ Her married name was Frye.¹ Her Social Security Number was 223-62-8163.² She married Leonard Oliver Frye.^1,3 Emelene Mattie Hale was born on May 4, 1907 at Virginia.² As of September 15, 1927,her married name was Cannaday.⁴ She married John Elwood Cannaday Sr., son of Andrew Luther Cannaday and Nora Dell Aldridge, on September 15, 1927 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,4 Emelene Mattie Hale died on February 17, 1992 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 84.^1,2 She FRYE, Emelene H. Cannaday, age 84, of Salem, passed away Monday, February 17, 1992 in a Salem hospital. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John E. Cannaday, Sr; and Leonard Oliver Frye; also a grandson, Daniel Bryan Cannaday; and a great-grandson, Benjamin Oliver Martin. Surviving are a son, John E. Cannaday, Jr; two daughters, Lynette G. Frye and Imojean F. Martin; son-in-law, Sherman Martin, grandchildren, John E. Cannaday, III of Los Angeles, Calif; William S. Martin, Jr. of Roanoke; granddaughter, Dawn M. Stanley of Salem; three great-grandsons, Daniel James Cannaday of Los Angeles, Calif; Edsel Dale Stanley, III and William Andrew Stanley, both of Salem; one sister, Edna H. Thomas of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Billy White officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Lotz Salem Chapel from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday. on February 18, 1992.¹

     His Social Security Number was 225-44-1885.⁴ John Elwood Cannaday Jr. was born on December 18, 1935 at Roanoke, Virginia.^3,4 He married Laura Middlebrooks on November 25, 1960.⁵ John Elwood Cannaday Jr. died on August 7, 2001 at Charlottesville, Virginia, at age 65.^4,2 He Retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel John Elwood Cannaday, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 7, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, John Elwood Cannaday; his mother, Emelene Hale Frye; stepfather, Leonard Oliver Frye; a son, Daniel Bryan Cannaday of Selma, Ala; and two uncles, Stan Cannaday and Nelson Thomas. He is survived by a son, Lt. Col. John E. Cannaday, III, USAF; a daughter-in-law, Louie; and grandchildren, Daniel, Patricia, and Kara Drake, of Colorado Springs, Colo; sister, Imojean Martin, Roanoke; and nieces and nephews, Eddie and Dawn Stanley, Bill and Martha Martin; sister, Lynette G. Frye, Roanoke; aunt, Manila Cannaday, Roanoke; and cousins, Iva and John Ferguson; aunt, Edna Thomas of Roanoke; and cousins, Larry and Sue Thomas and Susie and Forrest Campbell. John had a B.S. degree in Engineering from Virginia Tech, M.S. in Materials Science from Air Force Institution of Technology in Montgomery, Ala., and M.S. in Business Administration from Auburn University. John retired from the Air Force after 28 years as a pilot and instructor. He moved to Salem to be with his family in 1986 where he taught mathematics and materials science at the Governors School for 13 years. During his teaching in Roanoke City Schools, he received the Virginia Outstanding Mathematics Teacher of the Year Award in 1993 and established the program for materials science. In his memory, the school's educational foundation has established a memorial fund. Donations may be provided to the Governor's School in his name. He was loved by many and will be sadly missed. A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2001, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Ken W. Nienke officiating. Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will provide the Military Honors. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. on August 9, 2001.²
