Mr. Fleshman died Wednesday, September 3, 2003. Born in Forest Hill, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Mayson Clueren Fleshman and Mattie Michael Fleshman. He was the owner of Hobart Sales and Service and a member and past president of the Columbia Lions Club. He was a member and former deacon of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Shealy Sunday School Class. Mr. Fleshman enjoyed music and art, and worked with pen and ink. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Helen Lawrence Fleshman; son, James Ashley Fleshman and his wife, Ann, of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Jackie Fleshman of Columbia; brother, Gerald Ashley Fleshman and his wife, Sally, of Columbia; four grandchildren, James Gara Fleshman II, Shelly Fleshman Feltham, Lawren Fleshman Loudermilk and Whitney Ann Fleshman; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence Gara Fleshman. on September 4, 2003.2

He was born July 21, 1952, in Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Brammer and Marie Dobbins Cannaday, and his brother, Harry Brammer Cannaday, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Laura Campbell Cannaday, of Richmond; his sister, Brenda Gail Cannaday, of Vinton, and many other loving relatives. Roger was a member of Rainbow Forest Baptist Church in Troutville. He was a remarkable athlete and loved to hunt and fish. He graduated from William Byrd High School in 1970, and that same year he was a state champion wrestler. A wrestling scholarship fund at William Byrd High School is being set up in his name. Roger also served in the United States Air Force and attended Virginia Tech. He was a skilled builder and past owner of Cannaday Construction, Inc. His family would like to thank his good friends, WC Adams and Eric Thomas, for their amazing and continuous support, compassion, and care during Rogers illness. Rogers family would also like to thank the staff at the VA Hospital in Salem for their care and kindness toward Roger. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 7 at Oakeys Funeral Home in Vinton. Funeral services will be at Oakeys Funeral Home Friday, September 8, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Mark Ellis officiating, followed by the burial at the family cemetery in Floyd. on September 7, 2006.2
