Gwendolyn Nomis Cook1,2

F, b. October 8, 1922, d. September 19, 2019
Gwendolyn Nomis Cook was buried at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill, Tazewell Co., Virginia.2 She was born on October 8, 1922 at Wilcoe, McDowell Co., West Virginia.3,2 As of circa 1939,her married name was Mullins.2 She married Strickler Zertha Mullins, son of Robert Lee Mullins and Julia Abiah Strickler, circa 1939.2 Gwendolyn Nomis Cook died on September 19, 2019 at Wytheville, Wythe Co., Virginia, at age 96.2 She Gwendolyn "Gwen" Cook Mullins, 96, of Wytheville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at Carrington Place after a long and joyous life. Born in Wilcoe, West Virginia on October 8, 1922, she was the daughter of John Albert Cook Sr. and Mary Cox Taylor. A member of "The Greatest Generation," Gwen was steadfast in her dedication to faith, family and friends. Married at the age of 17, she was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Throughout her life, she defined what it means to be a true matriarch through her thoughts, her words and, most importantly, her deeds. Gwen's entire life served as a testament to those ideals. She strived to express her steadfast love and affection for her family and her community by building a stable home based on her devotion to God. Residing in Buchanan County, Virginia for many years, she was also active in the community, including the local PTA and Oakwood High School's various athletic booster organizations. A lifelong Christian, Gwen was a founding member of Oakwood United Methodist Church. After retiring to Abingdon, Virginia in the late 1970's, she was an active member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church. Throughout the years, she selflessly gave of her time, talents and treasures to the congregation. Her smile and voice could often be found in joyful praise and worship, singing in the choir and serving on various boards and committees. Gwen found great joy in the fact that all of her children and grandchildren were baptized and were followers of Christ. Never one to take a day for granted, Gwen enjoyed cooking for friends and family, gardening and daily walks. Well into her nineties, she continued those traditions. Her passion for gardening was symbolic of her entire life. Just as she demonstrated in her relationships with others, Gwen took great care to nurture her plants and flowers to their full potential. Her joy for life was also in full display during her daily walks. Her beautiful soprano voice often resonated around her neighborhood and through the halls of Carrington Place, spreading cheer to her neighbors. Gwen was married to Strickler Z. Mullins for 47 years until his death in 1987. Her parents, daughter-in-law, Shirley Griffith Mullins, and son-in-law, Steven Price, also predeceased her. Surviving to share in her memories are her daughter, Priscilla Ann "Pris" Mullins Bingham and son-in-law, Glenn "Steve" Bingham of Williamsburg, Va; son, Robert "Bob" Henry Mullins and daughter-in-law, Freda Jamison Mullins of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Mildred "Jane" Mullins Price of Wytheville, Va; son, John Wise "J.W." Mullins and daughter-in-law, Janice Altizer Mullins of Myrtle Beach, S.C; son, Joseph "Joe" Strickler Mullins and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Keen Mullins of Catawba, N.C; and son, H. Rae Mullins and daughter-in-law, Ruth Porter Mullins of Kingsport, Tenn. Also surviving are her half-brother, John A. Cook Jr. and half-sister, Nancy Owens, as well as 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held in the Chapel of Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. The Mullins' family is grateful for the kindness, empathy and tender care provided to their mother by the staff members of Carrington Place. on September 22, 2019.2

Earl B. McCullough1,2,3

M, b. December 5, 1926, d. September 10, 2020
Earl B. McCullough He was born Earl B. McCullough on December 5, 1926 and passed from this life on September 10, 2020 at 93 years old. Earl was the oldest of two children. He became a big brother in 1931 when his beautiful little sister Leanora was born. Life would never be the same for him. Leanora was not just his sister, but was one of his best friends whom he loved dearly and stayed close to his entire life. As young children, Earl and Leanora lost both of their parents to illness. They were both taken to the Sand Springs Home for Orphaned Children. Earl later went to live with his Uncle Earl and Aunt Daphne, where he stayed until he went on to serve in the United States Army from 1943, and during WW2. He later worked for the City of Tulsa in the sanitation department for 25 years at which time he retired. Earl had two daughters that he loved dearly. His oldest daughter Deborah was born to him on December 13, 1959 and his youngest daughter Vickie was born to him June 26th, 1954. He was immensely proud of them and was excited when they gave him grandchildren. He also had a bonus son Greg, who he loved spending time with. Earl enjoyed watching old western movies, watching wrestling, going fishing and trading cars…it is said he could not pass a car lot without stopping to see if he could make a deal. Deborah said as a kid she did not remember him coming to visit more than once driving the same car. She was always excited to see what he would be driving next. Earl was known to be quite the ladies' man. When he was younger, he loved to go dancing at the VFW. All the ladies wanted to dance with him, possibly because he always had a smile on his face. No one ever saw him angry or upset. He loved horses, everything about them including feeding and caring for them as well as riding them. He worked on a horse ranch and spoke of how much he loved it. There were lots of horses there and it was very beautiful. He reminded his granddaughter Jennifer of this story the last time she visited and told her he was going back there. He also asked to help him get dressed because he wanted to get a new car. We believe he got his new car and is now at that ranch enjoying those horses and watching those beautiful sunsets. Earl was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Otal, and his wife Dorothy. He leaves behind to recall his memories his daughters Deborah and husband Joe, and daughter Vickie; his sister Leanora; his granddaughters Amanda and husband Rusty and Jennifer and husband Joe; his grandson Christopher; great-granddaughters Kaylyn, Kherstan; great-grandson Hunter; niece Jenna and husband John; great-nephews Tyler and Zach; bonus grandchildren Alyssa, Austin, Frank, Katherine, Patricia, Samantha and Jack; his bonus son Greg; and many other special family members and friends.3 He was buried at Green Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 20 East Teel Road, Sapulpa, Creek Co., Oklahoma.4 He was born on December 5, 1926 at Little Rock, Pulaski Co., Arkansas.2,3 He married Pearline Huffaker, daughter of William Charles "Charley" Huffaker and Doris Pearl Dudley, on April 23, 1949 at Sand Springs, Tulsa Co., Oklahoma.1 Earl B.
