Williams and wife, Nancy, of Amherst; three sisters, Louise R. Mitchell, of Lynchburg, Billie R. Morcom and husband, Woody, of Madison Heights, and Jean R. Wood and husband, Maynard, of Madison Heights; granddaughter, Laura Gayle Williams and husband, Han Dilani, of Bethesda, Md; step-grandchildren, Kendall M. Mays and wife, Anna, of Amherst, Emily Orme and husband, Josh, of Piney River, Ellen Wilmer and husband, Chris, of Roanoke, and Mitchell Ferguson and wife, Nikki, of Standardsville; six step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Jim Freeman and the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald. Interment will take place in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Richard and Nancy Williams, 1037 Falling Rock Drive in Amherst County. Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel, is assisting the family. on July 29, 2007.1

He was a member of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the International Association of Machinists. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Marion Burley Williams of Wesgate, Clifton Forge; a step daughter, Nancy Arritt and husband Robert of Daleville; four step sons, Jay Campbell and wife Laura of Covington, Forrest Campbell and wife Sue of Ridgeley, WV, Rock Campbell of Clifton Forge, and Stoney Campbell and wife Yvonne of Vinton; a sister, Ethel Childress of Clarksville, TN; ten step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by members of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.      His Social Security Number was 505-38-5806.5 Charles William Schafer was buried at Central City Cemetery, Central City, Merrick Co., Nebraska.1,3 He was born on August 24, 1887 at Nelson, Nuckolls Co., Nebraska.2,3,4,5 He married Dora Nettie Wilson, daughter of Joel Bernard Wilson and Margaret Orinda Littrell, on May 21, 1917 at Nelson, Nuckolls Co., Nebraska.6,7,3,8 Charles William Schafer died on August 6, 1956 at Lincoln, Lancaster Co., Nebraska, at age 68.3 He Death claimed Charles W. Schafer, 69, Central City optician and business man, August 6 at the Veterans hospital in Lincoln. He had been ill the past few months. He came to Central City in 1917 when he and his brother George opened the Schafer Brothers Jewelry store and operated as a partnership until 1930. Disposing of the store at that time he established the optical office that he operated until his death. He was prominent in many civic enterprises. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for 38 years, serving as their president 25 of those years. A member of the Knights of Pythias over a span of 38 years holding every office in the order. Mr. Schafer was city clerk for 16 years. He served his country in World War I and was a charter member of Lone Tree Post No 6 American Legion. He was born August 24, 1887, at Nelson, Neb., the son of John and Phyllis Collins Schafer. He grew to manhood there and received his early education. Following the occupation of farming for a time, he attended the Kansas City Optical School and the Lincoln Busniess College. He was united in marriage to Dora Nettie Wilson at Nelson May 21, 1917. She preceded him in death only a month ago. Surviving are a brother, George of Central City; three sisters, Mrs. Alma Cate, Central City, Mrs. Katherine Jeffries, Ft. Morgan, Colo., and Mrs. Ada Herrick, Greeley, Colo; 13 nieces and nephews. His parents, two sisters and one brother, also preceded him in death. Interment was in the Central City cemetery. on August 9, 1956.3
