James Earl "Jay" Whitlow James Earl Whitlow, 69, of Kellysville Road, Princeton, died Sunday, November 3, 2019 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born August 18, 1950 in Princeton, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Alice Whitt Whitlow. He was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother uncle and friend. James served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He worked in the coal mines and also worked in the construction industry. James loved hunting, fishing, hunting ginseng and just being in the outdoors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Houston, James, Dean, Benny, Larry, Harry, Lois, Claris, Betty Jo, Connie, Jeff and Billy. Surviving is his loving wife Ellen. Children: Jimmy J. Whitlow and wife Ann, Becky Gibson and husband Casey. Grandchildren: Briana Whitlow and fiancée Curtis Nicholson, Casey J., Delney and Zoey Gibson. Two great-grandchildren, Axton and Azlynn Nicholson. Two sisters, Donna Tignor and Patsy Elliott. Special niece, Amy Beth Dunn. Several nieces and nephews. He was a tenth degree Master Karate teacher and well respected by all under his instruction. Randy was a member of the American Karate Association, MENSA, Moose Lodge #715, and the Deora Cycling Confederation. He also taught canine behavior training in California. He was a former Lynchburg Police officer and later a manager with Lynchburg Training Center. In addition to his wife, Shirley, Randy is survived by one son, Randy Williams Carmine of Tampa, FL; one daughter, Whitney Williams of Lynchburg; one brother, Kip Daugherty of St. Peters, MS; two sisters, Tracy Daughtery of Charleston, WVa and Shelia Hartless of Pittsburgh. PA; one grandchild, Persephone Carmine. Randy is also survived many friends including, Jimmy Lee Horsley, Jerry Horsley, Carl Horsley, Richard Blankenship, Dennis Wright, Pete Hicks, and Kent Johnson. The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Koury, and the nurses in Neurological Intensive Care, Jillian, Heather, Kristin, Gay, Kara Christy, Amanda and Darah for their love and outstanding care given to Randy. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park. on January 13, 2008.6

She was the wife of the late Earl Owen Williams. Born Jan. 6, 1914, in Amherst County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Emanuel Raikes and Mary Woody Raikes. She was a member of Sandy Bottom Christian Church. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles E. Raikes Jr. and Emmett Raikes; seven sisters, Erma R. Newcomb, Myrtle R. Roberts, Violet Raikes, Margaret R. Smithers, Mary Raikes, Bessie R. Vest and Sammie R. Roberts; and a grandson, Richard Scott Williams. Survivors include a son, Richard E. Williams and wife, Nancy, of Amherst; three sisters, Louise R. Mitchell, of Lynchburg, Billie R. Morcom and husband, Woody, of Madison Heights, and Jean R. Wood and husband, Maynard, of Madison Heights; granddaughter, Laura Gayle Williams and husband, Han Dilani, of Bethesda, Md; step-grandchildren, Kendall M. Mays and wife, Anna, of Amherst, Emily Orme and husband, Josh, of Piney River, Ellen Wilmer and husband, Chris, of Roanoke, and Mitchell Ferguson and wife, Nikki, of Standardsville; six step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Jim Freeman and the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald. Interment will take place in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Richard and Nancy Williams, 1037 Falling Rock Drive in Amherst County. Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel, is assisting the family. on July 29, 2007.1
