While also a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and the Anata Guild, Genie enjoyed most of her free time spent with the Moss in the Highlands Chapter of the P. Buckley Moss Society. In addition to her parents Eugenia was proceeded in death by her husband, Bernard William 'Pete' Nicely Jr, as well as her step-father, William Pete Dodd. She is survived by her son, Travis L. Nicely (Eagle Rock); her sister, Anita V. Boone and husband, Rob (Covington); her brother, Michael R. Van Buren Sr. (Williamsburg); two brothers in law, Gary Nicely & wife Teresa (Eagle Rock), Mark Nicely and wife, Julie (Clifton Forge); three nephews, Israel Boone, Joshua Van Buren and Michael Van Buren Jr; two nieces, Megan Boone and April Wright; three great-nieces, Reagan Elizabeth, Harmony and Brintley; a great-nephew, Logan; and a host of close friends, who were family. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday Sept. 28 2016 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverends Mike Warren and Nathan Colwell officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Clifton Forge.5

Pete was born August 2, 1947 in Alleghany County, Virginia, a son of the late Bernard W. Nicely, Sr. and Fern Conner Nicely. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was an engineer for CSX Transportation. He was a member of the Clifton Forge Moose Lodge No. 1683, the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge No. 166 A.F. and A.M., the Alleghany Royal Arch Chapter No. 24, the Alleghany Commandery No. 23, the Scottish Rite Bodies of the Roanoke Valley, the Kazim Shriners, the Clifton Forge Shrine Club, and the Hot Springs Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Iron Gate Church of God of Prophecy. He is survived by his wife, Eugenia “Genie” VanBuren Nicely of Fork Farm, Eagle Rock, a son, Travis Lee Nicely of Fork Farm, Eagle Rock, a brother, Gary L. Nicely and wife Teresa of Fork Farm, Eagle Rock, mother-in-law, Martha VanBuren of Clifton Forge, and special friend, Pete Dodd, special sister-in-law, Anita Boone and family of Covington, special brother-in-law, Michael VanBuren and family of Richmond, a number of nephews, one niece, and a host of aunts and uncles. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 6, 2006 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Edith Snedegar and Reverend Mike Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Rob Boone, Wayne Lindsay, Donald Conner, Jeff Wood, Joe Peters, Norman Kelly, Leonard Woods, and Michael Thompson. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge No. 166 A.F. and A.M. Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
