His Social Security Number was 198-18-5288.7 Frank Vincent Weltner Frank Vincent Weltner, 84, of Franklin, died at 9:58 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Erie. Born June 20, 1927, in Youngstown, Ohio, Frank was the son of the late Clifford M. and Ellen "Susie" Deely Weltner. He was married March 30, 1949, to the former Phyllis E. Whitehill, and she survives. Mr. Weltner was a retired Navy lieutenant veteran, serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and during the Vietnam War Era. He was commissioned in the Navy on June 2, 1960. While in the service he was an electronics installation and maintenance planning officer for Naval Tactical Data Systems Equipment; a ships navigational officer; and a staff engineer officer. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Medal-Korea, the Expert Pistol Shoot Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Ribbon, the American Campaign Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, and the Distinguished Pistol Shoot Badge. Mr. Weltner served on naval destroyers, naval submarines, and also on naval research and development ships. He also served on deep sea drilling vessels and exploration research and mapping ships. Mr. Weltner retired from the Navy as a lieutenant on April 30, 1973. Frank was a graduate of Cranberry High School. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Franklin. He was past president of the Franklin Kiwanis Club, the Franklin Chamber of Commerce "Man of the Year" in 2005, a member of the board of directors of the DeBence Music Museum, a member of the board of the Franklin Redevelopment Authority, and a member of the Oil Region Heritage Board. He was a member of Allegheny Valley Trails Association, the National Rifle Association, the Friends of Drake Well, Inc., the Venango County Historical Society, the American Legion, and was a former member of the Austin Healy Club of Southern California. Mr. Weltner was the recipient of the Admiral Nimitz Cup, and was invited to the 1968 Olympic Trials. He was distinguished marksman and 1967 Pacific Fleet pistol champion. Frank was also a member of the Historic Franklin Preservation Association, the Fleet Reserve Association, the Military Officers Association, the Oil Region Alliance, the Allegheny River Stone Center for the Arts, the Heritage Advisory Council to the Oil Region Alliance, and a member of the board of directors of the former Franklin Club. Mr. Weltner was employed by Global Marine Drilling Company as a master mariner until his retirement in December 1986. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, and was well known for his restoration of an old Victorian house on Elk Street in Franklin. In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by his son, David T. Weltner and his wife, Shannon, of Downingtown; and his daughters, Judy L. Gibbons and her husband, Tom, of Mariposa, Calif. and Susan K. Nash and her husband, Dan, of Lehi, Utah. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Kerri Gibbons and her husband, Rod Timmons, of Mariposa, Calif., Erin Statkus and her husband, Nick, of Redding, Calif., Christa Nash of Nampa, Idaho, Frank V. Weltner of Pittsburgh, Stephanie Parrott and her husband, Tayler, of Caldwell, Idaho and Jennifer M. Boland and her husband, Nate, of Turtle Creek; and his five great-grandchildren, Jackson, Clara and Molly Statkus, of Redding, Calif., and Patrick and Collin Parrott, of Caldwell, Idaho. Mr. Weltner is additionally survived by his brother, Howard A. Weltner and his wife, Virginia, of Franklin; his sister, June DeLong, of Franklin; his sister-in-law, Margie Weltner, of Largo, Fla; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Weltner was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Donald and Robert Weltner; his brother-in-law, Richard DeLong; and his step-mother, Bernese Weltner. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the First Presbyterian Church in Franklin, with the Rev. Dale Francis, former interim pastor of the church, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Mr. Weible was active in his home community in Little League baseball and Softball. He liked bowling, golfing and hunting and often returned to this area for hunting. He visited his parents in Knox this past fall. He was married to the former Margaret Healy of Brooklyn, N.Y., who survives along with his parents; two sons, Robert Weible of Snug Harbor, R.I., and William Weible at home; daughter, Lynn Weible home; two brothers, Paul Weible of Welaka, Fla., and David C. Weible Jr. of Knox; sister, Mrs. William (Mary Jane) Wise of Knox; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Removal was made to the Charles Schmill Funeral Home in Seaford, where funeral services will be held Thursday. Interment will be in Long Island. on January 21, 1975.4

Born May 16, 1922, in Knox, Mary Jane was the daughter of David and Mary (Whitehill) Weible. Mary Jane graduated from White Memorial High School and the Oil City Business School. She worked as a secretary for H. B. Beels Insurance in Knox for many years. On September 21, 1951, Mary Jane married William Wise who preceded her in death in 1999. Mary Jane was a lifetime member of the Edenburg Presbyterian Church. She was a member of many church groups and various Bridge clubs for many years. She enjoyed doing puzzles with her friends, watching the Pirates and Steelers, golf and spending time with her granddaughters. Until her recent decline in health Mary Jane was able to live at home thanks to her helpful friends and neighbors, especially Teresa McIlhattan and her daughter in law Marty Wise. Mary Jane is survived by her daughter Sherrie Gilkey of Hermitage, her son Michael “Wally” Wise and his wife Marty of Knox, two granddaughters Cynthia Gilkey of West Middlesex and Molly Wise of New Bern, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and parents Mary Jane was preceded in death by infant twin sons, three brothers Robert Weible, David Weible and Paul Weible, two sisters in laws Marge Weible and Dorothy Wieble and a son in law Edwin Gilkey. Per Mary Jane’s request there will be no viewing. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday in the Edenburg Presbyterian Church in Knox with Brian Hauser officiating. Interment will follow at the Knox Union Cemetery. on April 20, 2016.5

Mr. Weible retired from Knox Glass after 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. Mr. Weible was a member of Edenburg Presbyterian Church in Knox. He also belonged to Berlin-Boswer American Legion Post 277 and the Knox Sportsman's Club. He was a 50-year member of Edenburg Lodge 550, F&AM, in Knox, the Venango Lodge of Perfection and the New Castle Consistory. Mr. Weible enjoyed hunting, bowling, golf and spending time with his grandchildren. He married the former Dorothy Hahn on March 16, 1943, and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Karen Kellogg and her husband, Jon "Herk", of Knox, and Gayle Brohl of Madison, N.J; one sister, Mary Jane Wise of Knox; two grandchildren, Kim Schmader and her husband, Kevin, of Brockport, and Jon T. Kellogg Jr. of Knox; and four great-grandchildren, Courtney Kellogg, Caitlin Kellogg, Landon Schmader and Lauren Schmader. In addition to his parents, Mr. Weible was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Weible and Robert Weible. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday at the David C. McEntire Funeral Home Inc., 504 East Penn St., Knox. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with the Rev. Jay Montgomery, pastor of Edenburg Presbyterian Church in Knox, officiating. Interment with full military honors accorded by the Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post will follow in Knox Union Cemetery.

"Herk" Kellogg, 77, of Knox, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at his residence. Born May 12, 1936, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Truman and Jesse Kellogg. Herk graduated from AC Valley High School. He served in the Army during peacetime, worked for Country Bell delivering milk, then worked several years for Penelec where he retired in 1994. After retirement Herk spent several years driving for Clarion County Transportation. Herk was a past master of the Edenberg Masonic Lodge 550, and volunteered for the Knox Area Ambulance Co. and Knox Volunteer Fire Co. He was a great softball player and enjoyed watching softball games after retiring from playing. Herk was an outdoorsman, he enjoyed spending time at Kahle's and most of all loved spending time with his grand kids. In 1963 Herk was married to Karen Weible, on June 8th and they would've celebrated 50 years together. Along with his wife Herk is survived by four children, Jon Kellogg of Knox, Kim Schmader and her husband, Kevin, of Brockway, Jay Kellogg and his wife, Kelli, of Zionsville, Ind., and Jill Francisco and her husband, Craig, of Weare, N.H. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Courtney and Caitlin Kellogg of Erie, Landon and Lauren Schmader of Brockway, and Austin, Samuel and Joey Kellogg of Zionsville, Ind. Herk is also survived by a brother, Terry Kellogg and his wife, Faith, of Erie; a sister- in-law, Louis Kellogg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Herk was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Kellogg and Jim Kellogg; and two sisters, Marilyn Carroll and June Irwin. Interment will follow at the Knox Union Cemetery. on May 30, 2013.2

Whitehill, died at her home in Limestone township, near Kingsville, on Wednesday night, November 13, aged 41 years and 12 days. Mrs. Whitehill was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Porter, and was born at Scotch Hill, Pa., November 1, 1866. In September, 1885, she was united in marriage to William A. Whitehill, of Limestone township, and her married life was all passed in the vicinity of the home where she died. She is survived by her husband and eight children, also by three sisters, viz: Ada Gallant, of Oklahoma; Mamie Fruber, of Wiikinsburg; and Josephine Porter, of Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Whitehill was a woman of many excellent qualities. She was a devoted wife and mother, and will be sadly missed from her home. In early life she united with the Presbyterian church at Corsica and retained her membership until her death. The interment took place at Corsica on Friday, the services being conducted by Rev. Richard of the M. E. church. on November 21, 1907.3

H. and Malissa Whitehill Porter, died while on his way to work Saturday, December 31, 1904, at Renton, Washington. He was born March 7, 1868, at Scotch Hill, Pa., where he made his home for several years after which he lived in various places throughout the county and was for several years a resident of Clarion. The funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterain church in Renton, Jan., 2, 1905, and the interment was made in the cemetery at that place. He is survived ty four sisters. His mother died on the evening of the day on which his funeral services were conducted. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of their many Clarion county friends and relatives. on January 12, 1905.5
