Robert C. Eldred of Mackeyville is Instantly Killed While Hauling Grain. Many people of this city who saw and conversed with Robert C. Eldred of Mackeyville, at the curb market Saturday morning were greatly shocked early in the evening to learn that he met a cruel death at his home in the afternoon. After returning from town Mr. Eldred began to haul his wheat from the field to the barn and while thus engaged his life was suddenly crushed out. He was standing on top of a load of wheat as the horses entered the barn when the fore part gave way and he slipped with the load down on the horses. His son LeRoy was following the load and saw his fathers dangerous position and ran through another portion of the barn to reach the horses heads in order to better help his father up, but he was just too late as his father had fallen to the ground the front wheel of the wagon passing over his head and left arm killing him instantly. His son seeing the blood gushing from his father head jumped upon a horse and went for Dr. Dumm at Mackeyville. The physicians found that Mr. Eldreds skull had been crushed by the wheel, causing instant death, his left arm broken and his neck badly bruised. The whole community was greatly shocked and grieved at the tragic death of their friend and neighbor. The deceased was a genial, benevolent, hospitable farmer and his friends were legion. He is survived by two sons, George B. Eldred of Altoona, and LeRoy, with whom he made his home, two brothers, John W., of South Sharon, William D., of Bendersville, and the following half brother and sisters: James P. Eldred, Glen Elder?, Kansas; Mrs. D.I. McNaul of this city, Mrs. W. S. Meyer and Miss Mary Eldred of Mackeyville. The funeral was held from his late home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Samuel Creighton. Interment was made at Cedar Hill cemetery. on July 22, 1904.5

Posy Weddle1,2,3,4

M, b. November 24, 1952, d. February 8, 2025
Posy Weddle Posy Weddle, 72, of Copper Hill, Virginia, went peacefully to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 8, 2025. He fought a hard battle with cancer for two and a half years. Posy was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Davis Weddle and Levi Jesse Weddle; and his brothers, JC Weddle and Leo Weddle. Posy retired from Steel Dynamics/Roanoke Electric Steel after 47 years of service proving his dedication and hard work ethic. He loved life and people, always the more people around, the better! Posy never met a stranger no matter where he would go. He was always ready for an adventure from racing motorcycles, circle track racing at Franklin County Speedway, and as owner of PW Longhorn Farm. Posy rode his longhorn steer in the Floyd Christmas Parade. But his greatest passion was to build a farm where family and friends could visit and enjoy time together. A dream he made a reality-his happy place, the farm. He even provided the barn as a wedding venue, excited to help a young couple get started on their journey together. Posy was a big mentor and loved sharing his knowledge, especially with his nephews. Whether it was nephews, nieces, or the kids in the neighborhood, it brought Posy so much joy teaching them all the skills he had learned. It was important to him to prepare the children for life ahead and how to make good decisions along the way. Family meant everything to him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Rita Wimmer Weddle. Family closest to him regardless of life's obstacles, his nephew, Michael Krawchison and his wife, Ashley and their sons, Cason and Easton; nephew, Calvin Weddle and his wife, Taylor; nephew, Levi Weddle; his sister, Ester Marshall; niece, Wanda Howell; and in-laws, Deborah and Joe Krawchison. Also surviving, his sister, Dreama, brother, Larry; and numerous nephews and nieces. Burial will follow at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren cemetery.4 He was buried at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 8838 Floyd Hwy N. US Hwy 221, Copper Hill, Floyd Co., Virginia.4 He was born on November 24, 1952 at Floyd Co., Virginia.2,3 He married Rita Faye Wimmer, daughter of Colonel Emera Wimmer and Blanche Louise Burnette, on April 28, 1973 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,2,5,4 Posy Weddle died on February 8, 2025 at Virginia at age 72.4
