She married Ross Hearing on Sept. 5, 1975 in Newport and worked for Consolidated Freightways. She enjoyed reading, gardening, golf and bridge. She was a member of several birthday and bridge clubs, spent some time as head of the Red Cross blood drawings, was president of the Grande Ronde Hospital Auxiliary for two years, was member of the La Grande Country Club as well as Women's Auxiliary president for two years, and had the distinction of being the only women president of the Golf Club. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Mike and Sandy Babic of La Grande; stepdaughters Elizabeth Oliver of Enterprise and Sylvia Hearing of Portland; sister Floy Matthews of Beaverton; brother-in-law Virgil A. Choate; one granddaughter; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross, in 2000; and two sisters, Louise Choate and Virginia Lewis. on July 3, 2003.2
