"Bud" Jenniges, 84, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away November 15, 2017, at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs. Bud was born in Hot Springs, April 6, 1933, to Norman and Dale Jenniges. He proudly served in the United States Army, serving most of his tour of duty in Germany. Bud was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, National Service Defense Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Bud graduated from Chadron State Teachers College (BA) and University of Northern Colorado (MA). He taught industrial arts in the Johnstown-Milliken (CO) school district for 30 years, and also taught PE and driver ed. Bud coached high school baseball, football and basketball. After moving back to Hot Springs in 2001, Bud coached baseball as a high school club sport and also a town team. Bud coached numerous American Legion baseball teams in Colorado and Hot Springs. After 65 years as a player and coach, Bud finally retired as a fan and supporter of all levels of baseball from Little League to MLB. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with many entertaining stories about both. Bud was also a hunter safety instructor. Bud was a member of Elks Lodge 751, VFW Post 2585 (Johnstown, CO), and the Hot Springs Rural Fire Protection District. He also served on the SD High School Baseball Board of Directors for 9 years. Bud was a member of Battle Mountain Post 71, where he served as commander for many years. Bud touched countless lives, as a teacher, coach, and community volunteer. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Norman Michael; sister, Leone; daughter, Kathy; his parents-in-law, Everett and Mabel Gillis. Bud is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna; children, Nancy Jenniges of Rocky Ford, CO; Barbara (John) Holmes of Nashville, TN; Deanna (Danny) Brewer of Olney Springs, CO; James (Kris) Jenniges of Odessa, NE; Carol (Rick) Abrams of Covington, TN; Shari (Rob) Schneider of Gilcrest, CO; sisters, Helen Steffen of Minneapolis, MN; Shirley (Dennis) Pelkofer of Aberdeen, SD; Kay (Lloyd) Flock of Buffalo Gap, SD; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.4 He was born on April 6, 1933 at Hot Springs, Fall River Co., South Dakota.2,4 He married Donna C. Throughout his life Ace was active in Boy Scouts, fishing, hunting, and Bison Boosters with his sons. He also enjoyed golfing at the Southern Hills Golf Course. He was a member of the United Churches in Hot Springs and a life member of Elks Lodge #1751 where he was treasurer for many years. For eight years he also served on the Hot Springs City Council. Ace is survived by his wife, Mavis, of Hot Springs; three sons, Don and wife, Cathy Olstad of Hot Springs, Dan and wife, Darcy Olstad of Farmington, MN, and Rich and wife, April Olstad of Hot Springs; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Jody, Chad, Neil, Scott, Caroline, Rylee and Rachil; one great-grandchild, Madelyn (daughter of Jody and Shaye Melton); two sisters, Irma and husband Gene Cornelius of Watertown, and Marlys and husband, Darrel Nelson of Naples, Fla; two stepbrothers, Vern Benson of Vermillion, and John and his wife Connie Benson of Hot Springs; father-in-law, Everett Gillis of Hot Springs; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, at the United Churches in Hot Springs, with Pastor Morris Nelson officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established in Ace's name and may be sent to the family. Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs. on July 21, 2009.2
