She was born on November 10, 1931, to Holbert L. and Martha (Todd) Berry in Kendallville. After the death of her mother when she was 6 days old, she was adopted and raised by Floyd and Wanda Day. She graduated from Kendallville High School in 1950. She retired from Kraft Foods after 29 years of service in 1991. Maxine had lived at Lake of the Woods since 1972, enjoying swimming, gardening, and fishing. She is survived by Gene Rowe, Lynn Rowe, Norm Rowe, Ron Becker and their families; sisters, Alice Swogger and Joanne Fouts; and brothers, Harold Berry, Albert Berry and John Berry and their families. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her birth parents; her adopted parents; three husbands, Paul Rowe, Howard Weber and Irvin Carpenter; a daughter, Martha Becker; two brothers, William Berry and Robert Berry; and her life long friend, Iris McKeever Simpson. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 ,at Brazzell Funeral Home's, Avilla Chapel, 530 N. Main St., with visitation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. He was born February 21, 1922 in Andrews, Indiana and was the son of the late Louis and Mary Knight. He was a graduate of Andrews High School, and DeVry Institute of Chicago, Illinois. He served with the United States Navy during World War II and was retired from the Federal Aviation Agency. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn I. Knight; and daughter, Genie K. Rich, of Roanoke; a son, Roger L. Knight, of Lewisville, Texas; and a daughter, Jan K. Dowler of Midland, Texas; seven grandchildren, Geoff and Greg Rich, Amy Hall, Angie and Beverly Knight, Heather and Keiko Dowler; three great-grandchildren, Devon and Cody Hall, and Hayden Rich. He was also survived by three brothers, Ray, Alan and Kent Knight; four sisters, Ruth Lee, Neva Jane Stonebraker, Phyllis Hoke and Judy Lee, and a number of nieces and nephews. Gene also leaves many friends on May 6, 1999.⁵
