Betty Frances Martin Betty Frances Martin Platt, October 3, 1931 — July 10, 2022. Betty Frances Martin Platt passed away Sunday July 10, 2022 in her hometown of Maryville, Tennessee. Born in Fayetteville, WV to William and Annise (Koontz) Martin, she was the older and favorite sister to Gaye Evans. In middle school, Betty met the future love of her life, Tommy and immediately refused to give him the time of day. They would meet again after high school and share a wonderful life of travel and adventure. Betty and Tommy moved from the mountains of West Virginia and found their little slice of paradise in Maryville, Tennessee with their daughters Kathy and Robin. Settled into farm life, raised their girls, and established a home base to go explore the world. Betty enjoyed her life in east Tennessee where she hiked the mountains and worked her garden each summer alongside many faithful canine companions, most recently the cucumber thief known as Mickey. She celebrated her faith as an active member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. What Betty loved most in this world, however, was her family. From the annual beach trip to South Carolina (23 years!) to family gatherings celebrating birthdays and holidays, Betty loved spending time with all the members of her family. She was incredibly proud to be a first-time great-grandmother this year. While Betty will most certainly be missed every day, she is now at peace with her Lord, where she can walk miles of beach and keep watch over her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Annise Martin. Betty is survived by her husband of 69 years, Tommy Platt; sister, Gaye Evans; daughters, Kathy and Joe Thomas, Robin and Jay Jenness; grandchildren, Will and Miranda Thomas, Laine Thomas, Aaron and Lindsay Jenness; great-granddaughter and namesake, June Frances Thomas. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.4 She was buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 541 Pleasant Hill Road, Maryville, Blount Co., Tennessee.4 She was born on October 3, 1931 at Fayetteville, Fayette Co., West Virginia.2,4 As of October 31, 1952,her married name was Platt.2 She married Tommy Edwin Platt on October 31, 1952 at Fayetteville, Fayette Co., West Virginia.2,4,6 Betty Frances Martin died on July 10, 2022 at Maryville, Blount Co., Tennessee, at age 90.4

M, b. February 29, 1932
Tommy Edwin Platt Tommy Edwin Platt passed away on June 27, 2023 in his hometown of Maryville Tennessee. Tommy was born February 29, 1932 in East Bank, West Virginia to Tommie and Edith Platt. When Tommy was in seventh grade, his family moved to Fayetteville, West Virginia where he would meet Betty Martin, his future wife. After high school, Tommy and Betty were married and began a life of adventure moving around the country as Tommy served in both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy. Tommy and Betty eventually found their little slice of paradise in Maryville, Tennessee with their two daughters, Kathy and Robin, here he worked as an air traffic controller. After retirement, Tommy took to the skies as a charter pilot. Bitten by the travel bug, Tommy and Betty roamed the globe to enjoy the beauties of Europe, an African safari, camping the wilds of Alaska with their girls, and Tommy's favorite, the stunning landscape of the American wild west. Tommy's favorite place, however, was home with his family and dogs. Known as Pop to many, he taught his kids and grandkids many life skills including how to drive, woodworking, and even how to wax a motorhome. When he wasn't working around his farm, Tommy could be found with a good western on TV and his canine companions by his side. Tommy was incredibly proud of all his family, including becoming a first time great-grandfather in May 2022. He loved nothing more than sitting with his family telling stories of "this ol' boy" he once knew, sharing his love of planes, and hearing what everyone had going on in their lives. Pop will be greatly missed by all of us. He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Betty Platt, parents Tommie and Edith Platt, and sister, Jean Ann Raesly. Tommy is survived by his daughters Kathy and Joe Thomas; Robin and Jay Jenness, grandchildren Will and Miranda Thomas; Laine Thomas; Aaron and Lindsay Jenness, great granddaughter June Thomas, sister Rosemary Platt and sister-in-law, Gaye Evans. There will be a visitation at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. A private graveside service and burial will be held at a later date.2 He was buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 541 Pleasant Hill Road, Maryville, Blount Co., Tennessee.2 He was born on February 29, 1932 at Hugeston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.1,2 He married Betty Frances Martin, daughter of William James "Bill" Martin and Lena Annis Koontz, on October 31, 1952 at Fayetteville, Fayette Co., West Virginia.1,3,2
