His mischievous sense of humor never quite camouflaged the generous and caring heart that drew a large circle of dedicated, longtime friends. He reveled in the outdoors, from mountains and woods to the beach, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. A loyal Marshall fan, he could be found most autumn Saturdays at the center of a group of laughing tailgaters at Joan C. Edwards stadium. He was absolutely devoted to his family, who have lost a guide, a steady source of advice, and a defender. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Richard Oderwald; a nephew, Benjamin Oderwald, and his wife, Christine Gibson; a niece, Elizabeth Oderwald Roettger, and her husband, David Roettger; great-nieces Eleanor and Celia Oderwald and Hazel Roettger; and a great-nephew, Desmond Oderwald.
