Va., Andrew Wilson Burdette, Jr., moved to the Peninsula in 1942 to support the war effort but, due to flat feet, was declared 4F by all by all of the military branches. Failing in his attempts to join the military, rather than return to W. Va., he found employment with NACA which suited his electronics expertise acquired at Indiana Tech. Mr. Burdette retired from NASA in 1974, following thirty two years of service, having worked on many pioneering initiatives in aeronautics and space, including the supersonic transport (SST) project and the Apollo Program to put a man on the moon. Wilson was an avid fisherman and enjoyed reading and recounting memories of the wonderful time he had growing up in W.Va. He delighted in telling his grandchildren and new members to the family about his adventures fishing along the New and Gauley Rivers in W.Va. He especially enjoyed demonstrating to his grandchildren how to search for Hellgrammites and other live bait for use in fishing that day. Wilson was a true servant to his fellow man. The family home was always open to extended family, friends, and strangers. He never spoke ill of anyone and was always considered to be a person that could be counted on when someone needed a helping hand. He freely gave of his time, his money, and his expertise whenever asked without expecting anything in return. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Reva White Burdette and daughter, Cheryl Burdette Adams. Wilson leaves behind to cherish his memory, brother, Marvin G. Burdette; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary W. Burdette, Daniel W. and Janet Burdette, Brian K. and Lois P. Burdette; son-in-law, J. Blaine Adams; grandchildren, Kimberly G. Adams, Samantha B.
