Burdette, 84, beloved wife of Andrew Wilson Burdette, Jr., completed her earthly walk of faith on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at the Riverside Convalescent Center, dying of natural causes. Born May 9, 1922, in Fayette County, West Va., the third of seven children of the late Willie Emerson and Ella Huffman White, Mrs. Burdette moved to the Virginia Peninsula in 1942 where she remained a resident of Elizabeth City County and Hampton until her recent passing. A lifelong dedicated member of the United Methodist Church, Reva became active with her older brothers, Kermit and Gerald, in church youth programs in Landisburg and Oak Hill, W.Va. Arriving in Newport News 64 years ago, she was married to Wilson at the Chestnut Avenue Methodist Church, and the couple provided decades of faithful, dedicated service to Tyler Memorial Methodist Church, frequently serving as delegates to the Virginia Annual Conference. Mr. and Mrs. Burdette are current members of Bethany UMC on Todds Lane. Reva generously gave unending loving support and encouragement to her husband during his successful 33-year career as a Civil Servant electronics technician with NACA/NASA at the Langley Research Center in Hampton. Working side-by-side with Wilson, Reva successfully raised a family of four children and always shared her optimism, clever sense of humor, and great love of road trips, sightseeing, and outdoor adventure. A skillful and prolific painter, Mrs. Burdette's hobbies included quilting, visiting museums and historical parks, playing family board and card games, solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, sharing lively conversations, and, especially, beachcombing the Gulf Coast in Florida and the Atlantic shoreline on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Always an efficient homemaker and supportive mother and grandparent, Mrs. Burdette still found the time and energy to apply her effective organizational skills during employment as the main office secretary at Hampton High School during the 1960's and 70's. Constantly seeking opportunities to share compassion and generosity with others, she was a warm and dependable neighbor on Sanford Drive and often opened her home to welcome visitors, including relatives, friends, and folks less fortunate than herself. Maintaining a lifelong fierce loyalty to both her immediate and extended families Reva is survived by Wilson, her husband of 64 years; sons, Gary Burdette, Dan Burdette and wife, Janet, and Brian Burdette and wife, Lois, all of Hampton; son-in-law, J. Memorial services will be conducted by the Reverend, Dr. Bob Gustafson, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. She taught us well how to better get along with each other. Our lives were greatly enriched by her powerful, yet gentle spirit. on February 27, 2007.4
