Duncan II, 76, of Salem, Va., was united with his Lord in glory on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Lance graduated from Northside High School, managed a Lendy's drive-in on Williamson Road in the glory days of the muscle car era, and served stateside in the United States Army Reserves as a cook and drill sergeant during the Vietnam conflict. He worked for then Norfolk and Western Railway for 16 years, surrendered his life to Christ during the Jesus Revolution of the 1970s and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology from Bryan College and two master's degrees in theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. He found his life's calling serving as a counselor and instructor at Appalachian Bible College in Beckley, W.Va., for 24 years. He also founded a local ministry committed to providing biblical counseling at no charge to those in need. When he wasn't counseling or teaching, Lance enjoyed building homes and working as a contractor in the Roanoke Valley. Lance was preceded in death by his parents, Lance and Frieda Duncan, and is survived by his wife of 47 years, Debra Duncan; son, Ian Duncan; daughter-in-law, Allison; and four beloved grandchildren, Phinehas, Treva, Ransom, and Grayson. He is also survived by an uncle, Jim Whisman (Betty) of Orlando, Fla., as well as many dear cousins. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. on November 5, 2023.2

Pat owned and operated Flints Service Center since 1972 where he made many friends, told many jokes and heard all the local gossip. He loved to hunt, fish and garden and grew enough tomatoes to supply all his customers. He was a big fan of Cheez-Its, hard candy and UVA. He was a member of Cave Spring Baptist Church where he served as an usher and deacon for many years. Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Bill Menefee officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. on May 16, 1990.4
