Born Sept. 5, 1922, in Dixon County, Tenn., he was the son of the late Hardin and Belle Thomason McCorkle. Mr. McCorkle was a territorial manager for Wyeth Laboratories. He was involved in scouting for over 60 years. Mr. McCorkle became an Eagle Scout instructor, camp ranger for Minter Scout Reservation, district camp chairman, chapter adviser and vigil honor holder, member Order of the Arrow. He received the Founders Award O.A., Medal of Merit, Silver Beaver Award, District Award of Merit, God and Country Award, Scoutmaster Award for outstanding development of Eagle Scouts, Scouters Key Award, Scouters Training Award. Mr. McCorkle was a member and past president of the Beckley Civitan Club and candy box chairman and past sergeant at arms. He was a life member of B.P.O.E., Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95 AF and AM, Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, Mt. Hope Commandry, member and past chaplain of the Beckley Shrine Club. Mr. McCorkle was a member of the Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy assigned to the 3rd Marine Division during World War II. He received the purple heart and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" McCorkle in 1990 and a son, Bobby McCorkle in 1977. Survivors include a son, Dana H. McCorkle of Beckley. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with military graveside rites being conducted by the Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95 AF and AM. on November 7, 1993.3

She was a member of the First Church of God, Mahood Avenue, Princeton and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Blevins, for whom she cared for nearly 49 years. Georgia truly gave of herself to others, putting others first, prior to her own needs. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Brookie A. Meadows and Gypsie Lee Ringley. Survivors; her brother, Oakie J. Conner, Jr. and his wife Alma of Pettrey; ten nieces and nephews. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Princeton. on October 25, 2008.7

Blevins, of the Athens Road, Princeton, died Friday afternoon, Nov. 28, 2003 at the Princeton Community Hospital. Born Dec. 12, 1926, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Preston Blevins and Emma Bailey Blevins Wall. Educated in Mercer County, he was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army and obtained the rank of sergeant. Robert was a former employee for the Majestic Steam Laundry of Princeton and was a disabled employee for the Virginian Railroad. Mr. Blevins was a member of the First Church of God, Mahood Avenue in Princeton, a life member of the DAV, also a member of the Commanders Club and was recognized as a Silver Leader and was a member of the AF & AM Masonic Lodge 134 of Princeton and a member of the AARP. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Blevins along with several half brothers and half sisters. Survivors: His loving, devoted and caring wife of more than 52 years, Georgia June Conner Blevins; a sister, Irene Ashley of Blacksburg, Va; and several nephews and nieces. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Princeton where military graveside rite will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Council. on November 30, 2003.3

Collin Ringley. He was the husband of Gipsie Lee Ringley, who died Aug. 12, 2007. He was a veteran of the Army, having served during the Korean conflict. He received two Bronze Star Medals and a Purple Heart during his service time. He was retired from Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville, where he had been a police officer. He also had worked in plumbing for several years. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in the mountains, hunting and bluegrass music. She was also a graduate of Mullens High School and Bluefield Business College. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Mike DeWees. Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Ron “Tuffy” Gordon of Mullens; a grandson, Zachary Lee Gordon of Princeton and his fiancé, Samantha Nester; a sister-in-law, Betty DeWees of Mullens; a nephew, Bill Mike DeWeese and his wife, Vickie, of Mullens; and three great-nieces, Kayla, Ali and Bekah DeWeese of Mullens. Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Rev. Gerald Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, Princeton. Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. on March 12, 2008.2

"Sam" Conner and Louise M. "Lou" Massey, on December 29, 1925 at Peterstown, Monroe Co., West Virginia.1,6,5,7 Waldo Emerson Ballard died on September 17, 1945 at Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 50.6,4,5 He Waldo E. Ballard, prominent Princeton businessman and well known throughout the southern part of the state, died Monday morning in the Princeton Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for the past 16 days. A veteran of world war I, he was born August 19, 1895, in Monroe county, the son of John T. Ballard and Margaret A. Bonham Ballard. A member of the Kee street Methodist church he is survived by his wife, Myrtle Conner Ballard, one son, Jennings Ballard, of the army in Texas; and one daughter, Anna Lou Ballard, 15, at home. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. F. B. Yost of Keystone, John R. Ballard of Union; A. O. Ballard of Elmote, Mrs. W. B. Yost of Tazwell, Va; R. L. Collins, of St. Louis; Herbert H. Ballard of Portsmouth, Va; and Paul Ballard of Princeton. Funeral services will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Kee street Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. O. E. Mercer and former pastor the Rev. L. D. Yost. Burial will be made in the Ballard cemetery at Ballard, Monroe county. on September 18, 1945.5

Survivors: two daughters, Helen Hartley of Greasy Ridge, Princeton, with whom she made her home, and Linda Collins and her husband, Ted of Princeton; three sons, Dewey (Buster) Conner and his wife, Shirley of Lenoir, N.C., Holly Conner of Pacoima, Calif., and Greeley Conner of Princeton; two stepsons, Claude Pennington of Cleveland, Ohio, and Tommy Pennington and his wife, Nancy of Toledo. Ohio; three sisters, Naomi Pettrey of Athens, Sylvia Howerton of Princeton and Louise Etter of Tazewell, Va; one brother, Quentin Butler of New York; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Burial will follow in the Butler Family Cemetery at Hilltop. Pallbearers will be: Russell Blankenship, Steven Ford, Eric Donley, Robbie Whittaker, Clayton Akers and Bobby Manning. on May 27, 1997.3
