Born at Beaver, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Londa E. Green and Arthael Ennis Green. She was also preceded in death by her sister Oretha Green Hancock. She was a retired postmaster, having last served at the Daniels, W.Va., Post Office. Eleanor loved her flowers and gardens at her home and was well known for her award-winning African Violets and beautiful orchids. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Carl Thomas Cole of Beaver; two daughters, Sandra Cole Richmond and husband Kenneth of Shady Spring, and Theresa Cole Currence of Rupert; three brothers, John A. Green and wife Lois of Mount Airy, N.C., Londa N. Green and wife Phyllis of Newberry, S.C., and Douglas N. Green and wife Carol of Surveyor; three grandchildren, Christina Richmond Ward, Angela Currence Goddard, and Andrew Currence; and four great-grandchildren, Dana, Natalie, Mikey, and Nathan. Services will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Rev. Luke Richmond officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley. The family will receive friends Sunday, from 2 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Nora was born Jan. 15, 1917, in Talcott; she was the daughter of the late Walter John and Mary Peach Hedrick. She spent the last two years as a resident of the Villages at Greystone in Daniels. She was an active member of Beaver United Methodist Church. Nora was a retired librarian and English teacher with the Raleigh County Board of Education, spending most of her career at Shady Spring High School and Shady Spring Junior High. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Paul Edward Cole, and an infant daughter, Rebecca Ann. Those left to cherish her memory include her children Margaret Sue Lucas and husband, Jennings, of Shady Spring, John Paul Cole and wife, Vicki, of Huntsville, Ala., Kathy Kunkel and husband, John Adam, of Annapolis, Md., Carol Roach and husband, Everette, of Beckley and Robin Settle and husband, Jerry, of Richmond, Va. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Wayne and Stephanie Lucas of Cool Ridge, John and Lorie Lucas of Cool Ridge, Lori and Mark Tafazoli of Cullman, Ala., Chris Cole of Huntsville, Alexandra and Jessica Kunkel of Annapolis, and Joel, Lukas, Jacob, Nathaniel, and Jeremiah Settle of Richmond, Va; great-grandchildren, Tyler Lucas of Cool Ridge, Ryan and Joshua Lucas both of Cool Ridge, and Olivia and Emma Tafazoli of Cullman. Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Rev. Betty Lusk officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Nora's grandchildren will be serving as pallbearers. Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Shady Spring High School Scholarship Fund or to Beaver United Methodist Church.
