Bill had a love of wood working, photography, fishing, gardening, western movies, cross word puzzles, and most recently, developed a keen interest in computers. He was a retiree from Front Royal Hydraulics. He was a long standing member of the Civil Air Patrol, and served as Major. He also served his country as a member of the Merchants Marines. Graveside services will be held at the Slusher-Jones Cemetery. A special thanks to Betty Slusher and her husband for taking such good care of Bill through the years. on August 19, 2004.3

Prater of North Carolina; two sisters, Sandra Burnett of South Carolina, and Francis Anna Thomas of North Carolina; as well as nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends. Betty is also survived by her loving brother, Samuel "Buddy" Prater of Marion, his children and her aunt and uncle, Irena and Maitland Prater. Betty also leaves behind her husband's four brothers and four sisters and many nieces and nephews in the Lawhun family. Graveside services for Betty will be held in Caledonia Cemetery. on May 10, 2007.1

He died July 9, 2004 in Decatur at the age of 83. Mr. Sides was a 28-year Veteran of the US Armed Forces having served in the US Navy and retired from the US Air Force. During his tenure he served in WW II, Korea, and Vietnam. He was a member of the First Christian Church, a former Chico City Councilman, and a longtime member of the VFW. He married Lawana June Prater on December 7, 1946 in Oak Hill, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph, Jack and Austin Sides; and his sister, Erlene Higginbothan. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, June Sides of Chico: sons, Dale Sides of Avery, Ralph Sides of Granbury and Jay Sides and wife Cathy of Chico; daughter, Colleen Self and husband Buel of Chico; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Bynum of Dallas; several nieces and nephews. 21 Gun Salute and flag presentation was by the Dyess Air Force Base Honor Guard. Interment was at the Chico Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph Sides II, Michael Eudy, Bryant Eudy, Matt Sides, Dusty Sides and Toby Sides. on July 15, 2004.2

After a lengthy illness, Jesus Reached out his hand and said "Come on home son, I know you are tired." Dale was born on September 1, 1947 in Oak Hill, West Virginia to the late Melvin Earl Sides and June Prater Sides. He was a retired V.P. of maintenance and repairs with EZ Mart, and served in the U.S. Airforce. Dale enjoyed a full life, touched the lives of many people, and left a lasting impression. He leaves his family and friends with many cherished memories. He was a big kid at heart and loved spending time with his grandkids. His many enjoyments included playing cards, fishing, and, most of all, setting up at flea markets to buy/sell and visit. Survivors include his loving wife of 19 years, Cathy Sides of Winnsboro; children, Keri Lynn Wright and husband Phillip of Austin, Texas, Christopher Dale Sides and wife Codye of Buda, Texas, Matthew Dale Sides and wife Lauren of Saginaw, Texas, Crystal Michelle Weaver and husband Bryan of Azle, Texas, Olivia Sue Kokko and husband Jack of Nash, Texas; bonus children, Michael Shane Martin and wife Rachel of Antlers, Oklahoma, and Tabatha Leeann Rangel of Shenandoah, TX; sister, Colleen Self and husband Buel of Chico, Texas along with seventeen grandchildren, Brianna, Jamison, Matt, Josh, Eric, Jacob, Winifred, Clara, Gavin, Caitlin, Gracie, Charity, Samuel, Michael, Ethan, Jasper, and Cameron.
