Mrs. Pickett grew up in Bluefield, Va. and attended the public schools. She worked as an upholsterer in the furniture industry for many years. After the death of her husband, William Scott Tesso, she married Theodore Pickett Jr. of Montcalm, later moving to Ohio. They lived on a large farm on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio in Outville. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Pataskala and the Masonic Order of the Eastern Star of Ohio. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pickett was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Pickett Jr; brothers, Eselle Burchett, Avery Burchett and Carl Fields; sisters, Annie Burchett Patrick, and her twin Nannie Burchett Grubb and Gertrude Burchett all of Bluefield, Va. She is survived by her children: Thomas Vernon Pickett and wife June of Bluefield, Patricia Mae Pickett Byerly and her husband Grimes of Hickory, N.C., Steven Lynn Pickett of the home and Pamela June Pickett Chilcote of the home. Mrs. Pickett is also survived by seven grandchildren: Valerie Brooks of Valdese, N.C., Bethany Brockland of Morgantown, N.C., Wayne Johnson of Morgantown, N.C., Tina Bray of Gatlinburg, Tenn., Heather Chilcote, Jettie Marie and Deanna Jean all of Columbus, Ohio. Living siblings are Viola Burchett Evan of North Carolina, Eulice Fields and wife Bessie of Bluefield, Va., Vernon Fields of Princeton and Pauline Fields Labert and husband Frank of Bluefield, Va. In addition, there are 10 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held today, Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at 12 noon at Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St., Pataskala, OH 43062, with Pastor Maddux officiating. Burial will follow in Pataskala Cemetery, Pataskala, Ohio. The family will receive friends at Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home 10-12 noon Friday (today). Memorials may be made to Franklin County Special Olympics, 3303 Winchester Pike, Columbus, OH 43232.      Shirley Arbutis Pittman Shirley Pittman Rodes Wendelken, 84, of Marietta, Ohio left this world to her heavenly home on January 7, 2020. She was born in Beckley, WV and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School class of 1953. She was preceded in death by her parents Basil and Alma (Lilly) Pittman, her husbands Thomas "Mickey" Rodes and Richard Wendelken. Also, her sisters Doris Riedlinger and Patty Reid, as well as her in laws Timmy Rodes and Ellen Pruett. Shirley is survived by her children Jerry Rodes, Pamela (John) Dolinger and Michael (Leslie) Rodes; step children Steve (Chris) Wendelken, Rick Wendelken, Debbie Nelson and Joy Levio. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Two sisters, Barbara Hamilton and Mary Maxey, and a sister-in-law Sue Nazworth. Many nieces, nephews and others she treated as grandchildren including Andy Brooker and his children. Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 1:30 PM. Friends may visit with the family from 11:30 AM until time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.
