He was retired from Federal Mogul with over 30 years of service. Jimmy was an avid sports fan, especially watching UVA football and basketball, and NASCAR, as well as sitting on the porch watching the wildlife around him. He also loved music, particularly Elvis and Motown, playing the guitar, and watching Andy Griffith, game shows and soap operas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nellie Gunter; one brother; and five sisters. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Gunter; son, Jon (Kristin) Gunter; daughters, Melissa Gunter, Kristi (Steven) Osborne, and Julie (Jeff) Sink; stepson, Eric Burlingame; grandchildren, Camden, Carrington, Joshua, Jakob, and Adam; brothers, Paul Gunter, and Sonny (Lora) Gunter; sisters, Jeanetta (Frank) Reynolds, and Ollie Sue Morris; and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at the Faith Christian Church in Christiansburg. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Rhudy officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg. on April 28, 2021.4
