He was a resident at Windy Hill Manor for the past three years. He was born May 16, 1927, in Crown Hill, son of the late Charles F. and Dorothy A. Hudnall Green. He was a graduate of East Bank High School, where he was student body president and played football and basketball. A WVU graduate with a master's degree in secondary education, he was a four-year starter for the WVU men's basketball team from 1945-49, playing with such greats as Fred Schaus, Leyland Byrd, Eddie Beach, Scottie Hamilton, and coached by Lee Patton wearing No. 18. He played semi-pro basketball for The Wheeling Blues. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a teacher at Romney High School, St. Francis and Morgantown High School, where he taught driver's education and history before he retired. While at these schools he coached basketball, football, baseball, and they were all championship teams. He and his wife helped run and operate the Roy P. Anderson Dairy Farm for many years. He was a member of Monongalia County Retired School Teachers. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rhea M. Anderson Green; a daughter and spouse, Kelly R. and Bruce E. Jenkins; a son, Michael A. Green; two sisters, Lucille Bragg, of Standard, Mary Etta Shinn, of Pratt, and a brother, Paul "Popeye" Green, of Miami, Fla. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Franklin "Kirby" Green, and Charles Frank Jr; two sisters, Anna Margaret Green, and Madge Janet Cummings. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11a.m., with the Rev. Calvin McCutcheon officiating. Burial will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery. Donations in his name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1299 Pineview Drive, Suite 3, Morgantown, WV 26505.

A retired professor of Morris Harvey College and substitute teacher in Kanawha County, Mrs. Shinn split her time between her homes in the Outer Banks and Pratt. She was a graduate of East Bank High School and West Virginia University. She was a member of Evening Rose Rebekah Lodge No. 15. She will be remembered and respected for caring for others in her community and as a loving wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, C.F. "Puny" and Dorothy Green; three brothers, Charles "Big Green," George "Kirby" and Clyde "Hardtimes" Green; and three sisters, Lucille Bragg, Madge Cummings and Margaret Green. She is survived by her daughter, Monica Shinn-McKinney of Fairfax, Va; stepson, Billy Joe Shinn and wife, Suzanne, of Knoxville, Tenn; and brother, Paul Green and wife, Sheryl, of West Palm Beach, Fla. She also had multiple nieces and nephews who loved her very much. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Clara Jackson, who loved her dearly and was very supportive to them. There will be no service or visitation. The body was donated to the West Virginia University Human Gift Registry. A memorial service will be held at a later date. on September 16, 2013.5

Mrs. Green was born in Morgantown on May 2, 1928, the daughter of the late Roy P. Anderson and Leta Hiner Anderson. She graduated from Morgantown High School. She later met the man of her dreams, Clyde R. Green while playing ping pong at WVU's old Mountainlair. She and her husband helped run and operate the Roy P. Anderson Dairy Farm on Cobun Creek Road. For many years, she worked at Stengers News Stand at the top of High Street which was owned by her sister, Libby and husband and Joe. She is survived by her daughter and spouse, Kelly R. Jenkins and Bruce; her son, Michael A. Green both of Morgantown. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Green. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and management at Mapleshire for the wonderful care given to their mother. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Tuesday, Dec. 31st from 3-7 p.m. Vititation will continue on Wednesday, Jan. 1st from 10:00 a.m until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Minister. John R. Sausen and Pastor Rose Saunders officiating.      Jewel Pearline Saul was buried at Montgomery Memorial Park, Route 60, London, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.2 Her Social Security Number was 234-66-1093.4 She was born on April 2, 1917 at Carbondale, Fayette Co., West Virginia.1,2,4 As of June 27, 1936,her married name was Estep.3 She married Ralph Corbett Estep Sr., son of James Corbett Estep and Thelma Ethel Hudnall, on June 27, 1936 at Montgomery, Fayette Co., West Virginia.1,2,3,5 Jewel Pearline Saul died on August 8, 2007 at Ocala, Marion Co., Florida, at age 90.2,4 She Jewel Saul Estep, born April 2, 1917, at Carbondale, W.Va., and formerly of Standard, W.Va., passed away on August 8, 2007, at home in Ocala, Florida. Jewel was a pianist for the Baptist Church in Standard, W.Va., in the1950s. After moving to Florida in 1976, Jewel joined Saint Paul's United Methodist Church in Ocala, Fla. Jewel was a devoted mother and her door was always open for family and friends to visit. Jewel also owned and operated the Pioneer Inn at East Bank, W.Va., between 1960 and 1968. Everyone enjoyed the times spent with her and will always have fond memories of her at the Pioneer Inn. Jewel was a lifetime member and Past Matron of Kanawha Chapter No. 38, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a 50 plus member. She served as Grand Representative of Florida in West Virginia from 1987 to1989. Jewel was also a Past Worthy High Priestess of Manatho White Shrine No. 5 in Montgomery, W.Va., now Charleston Shrine No. 7. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Estep Sr; son, Ralph C. "Sonny" Estep Jr; parents, Sam and Oshie Saul of East Bank, W.Va; sisters, Neoma Crynock and Mattie Dressier; and brothers, Willie, Wilson, Sammy and Johnny Saul. Cherishing her memories are her four daughters, Shanda (Raymond) Douglas and Sally Graves of Bethel, Ohio, Susie (Larry) Williams of Warrenton, Va., and Sharlene (David) Carney of Ocala, Fla; sister, Agnes (Frank) Wooters of Vienna, W.Va; and brother, James (Betty) Saul of Bishopville, S.C; daughter-in-law, Gloria Dee Estep of Sophia, W.Va; four grandsons, Shawn (Rachelle) Jarrett of Craigsville, W.Va., James (Carol) Williams of Amissville, Va., Charles Ralph "C. R." Douglas of Batavia, Ohio, and Michael A. "Tony" Fekete of Ocala, Fla; five granddaughters, Parris Milton of Cincinnati, Ohio, Tonja (Gary) Moore of Miramar, Fla, Lisa (Eric) Kaase of Warrenton, Va., Sherrie Marcum and Sabrena Jones of Ocala, Fla; one step-granddaughter, Lisa Lambert of Sophia, W.Va; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandsons; one step-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Please join us as we celebrate the life of our precious mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Visitation will be held from 6 until 9 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2007, at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Eastern Star services being held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at O'Dell Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2007, with the Rev. Ron Lee officiating and visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London, W.Va. on August 12, 2007.2

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph C. Estep Sr. In accordance with his wishes, he will be placed to rest at his birthplace in McAlpin. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Arrangements are by Hiers Funeral Home, Ocala, Fla.
