Brenda Joyce Hanson Brenda Joyce Hanson Thomas 68, of South Charleston passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016 after a short illness. She was born in South Charleston on February 11, 1948. She was raised by her late grandmother Bertha Christy. On November 27, 1976 she married Wilmer "Red" Thomas II and they enjoyed 39 years of loving marriage together. Brenda was a mother to three girls. Lora Reneau Flores (Ian Flores), Shawna Crystle Carter (Bruce Carter II) and Shana Christina Woodson (William Woodson). Brenda was a loving grandmother to eleven grandchildren. Nina Flores, Lydia Flores, Ian-Isaac Flores, Nadia Flores, Amelia Flores, Laila Flores, Sydney Carter, Lillian Woodson, Mayrose Woodson, Liam Woodson and Violet Woodson. Brenda owned her own business and provided love and support to many people. She enjoyed traveling and often talked about her experiences living and traveling abroad. She loved taking her children for walks in the woods and turning that walk into an exciting adventure. She was an involved mother who was always there for her children. She would make homemade pea soup when they were sick, take them to parks, helped with school projects and instilled important religious values in each of them. Brenda grew up loving the outdoors, roller skating, and going to dances. Brenda met her soulmate on the playground when she was in grade school. She would later meet him again years later at a roller skating rink and after a courtship, married. The love between the two of them was unmeasurable. They adored one another and cherished every moment they spent together. They were best friends and did everything together. Brenda was an amazing mother, wife and friend. There are no words to express the love she had for her family. She would move heaven and earth for her children. She was always there ready to listen with comforting advice to anyone that needed it. She had a heart of gold and gave to anyone that was in need. She was a great hostess, and always made sure you never left hungry. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved to go shopping and couldn't wait to see the look on her family's faces as they unwrapped their special gifts she so carefully chose. She loved to decorate and would take the time to make all of her children's favorite dishes. She was strong in her faith and loved the Lord. She was simply extraordinary. She was preceded in death by her father Howard Hanson, Jr. and grandmother Bertha Christy. Those left to cherish memories along with her husband Wilmer "Red" Thomas II are her three daughters, Lora Flores, Shawna Carter and Shana Woodson and her sister Linda Osborne and many family members and friends.
