Donald Norman Prosser passed away peacefully at home at the age of 90. He was born in Pasadena, California, and spent his summers working at his grandfather's resort lodges in the Sierras. In 1940, he enrolled in the Civil Pilot Training Program, where he met his first wife of 32 years, Helen Richards. During World War II, they both served the war effort as flight instructors and in the Ferry Command. Don worked for the Honolulu Oil Corporation in Taft for 17 years, and then earned his teaching degree at Fresno State. In 1968, he began teaching aviation to Lower Lake High School students, and owned and operated Prosser Flying Service on Pearce Field for 10 years. He continued teaching ground school and high school courses until he retired in 1981. Over the years, he enriched thousands of lives through his brilliant teaching of flying and many other subjects. After Don's first wife, Helen, was killed in a flying accident in 1976, he was married in 1977 to the second love of his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Janet, by her three children, Dianna, Mary, Joe, and five grandchildren, and by his two sons, Gary and Dean, grandson Mark, and two great-granddaughters. Don's many skills and his generosity were legendary. He enjoyed singing in church choirs and community choruses for 55 years. He celebrated the beauties of nature through photography, travel, and sharing stories with family and friends. True to his nature, he maintained his fine sense of humor through his final hours. He always said he had his head in the clouds, and he has again taken flight, this time over the rainbow. His Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place on November 21 at 1 p.m. at the Lower Lake Community Methodist Church and Social Hall. His wishes are that any remembrances be donated to the Prosser Family Memorial Fund (for scholarships) at Lower Lake High School, P.O. Box 799, Lower Lake. on November 4, 2009.2
