Barry was a member of the Ballard Baptist Church in Ballard, WV, and attended Liberty Baptist Church in Princeton, WV. He worked as a coal miner for 20 years and was a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed hunting and loved to fish. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Tony Hall; two brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Gail Williams Hall; one son, Barry Hall Jr. and wife Stephanie of Princeton, WV; his precious grandson, Blake Hall of Princeton, WV; one brother, Benjamin "Ben" Hall and wife Lavern of Stoneville, NC; one sister, Irene Bailey of Maxie, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Born March 24, 1923, at Pipestem, he was the son of the late Richard S. Foley Sr. and Josie Law Foley. Richard was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. He received the American Theater Ribbon, the Pacific Theater Ribbon with One Bronze Star; the Good Conduct Ribbon and the World War II Medal. Richard had spent more than 30 years in the coal industries, having worked as a timberman and later with Anderson and Anderson Construction as a Tipple operator, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the UMWA. Richard was devoted to his family, and loved serving his Lord and his country. Richard lived a simple life, enjoyed riding around and seeing the country side, good bluegrass gospel music, hunting and fishing, and was an avid NASCAR fan, especially cheering his favorite driver on to victory, Jimmie Johnson. He also will be remembered for being an outstanding left handed horse shoe pitcher and a good musician. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances Marie Hall Foley; along with a granddaughter, Jaime Foley; and by six siblings, Royal, Coolidge, Arlie, Billy James, Beatrice, and Marie. He will be lovingly remembered by his five children, Steven Foley and wife, Diana, of Parks La., Debra Volkmer and husband, Donald M.D., of Salisbury, N.C., Kathy Horton, Alice Jarrett, and Peggy Washburn, all of Bassett, Va; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Maxine Hall, Betty Hall, Steve Foley, all of Bassett, Va., Jo Ann Thompson of Collinsville, Va; and a host of nieces and nephews. Burial will follow in the Wood Cemetery on Knob Ridge Road, Pipestem with full military honors given by the WV Honor Guards and the Mercer County Veterans Council. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Lilly, Wayne Koger, Michael Foley, Tom Swinney, Joshua Jarrett, Barry Lee Hall, Niven Kinney and Adam Shorter. on August 31, 2012.4
