Born in Alderson in 1919 and a graduate of Alderson High School, he served in World War II in both the 25th and 53rd battalions of the Seabees and was attached to the 3rd Division of the U.S. Marines. Following the war he worked until his retirement for the C & O Railroad. He was a member of the Alderson Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. Survivors include his stepson, Claude "Red" McMillion (Margaret) of Lewisburg, Tenn; and four step-grandchildren, Kim Holly (Rhea) of Franklin, Tenn., Andrew McMillion of Madison, Tenn., Michael McMillion of Nashville, Tenn. and Laura Mitchell (Darryl) and their children, Grayson and Briggs, of Charleston, S.C. He is also survived by a sister, Anna Mae Chesher of Buchanan Dam, TX, and several nephews and nieces, including Linda (Mike) Rider and Joanne Hardesty Lightner of Alderson. on December 19, 2012.6

     Her Social Security Number was 232-96-4464.4 Effie Frances Meadows was buried at Furrow Cemetery (also known as Skaggs Cemetery), Shady Spring, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.5,6 She was born on November 21, 1911 at True, Summers Co., West Virginia.4,5,6 As of November 2, 1932,her married name was Furrow.3 She married Henry Harvey Furrow, son of John Albert Furrow and Mary Emily Spangler, on November 2, 1932 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.1,3,5,7 Effie Frances Meadows died on February 25, 2006 at Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 94.5,4,6 She Effie Frances Meadows Furrow - On Feb. 25, 2006 around midnight the Lord came by Effie's house and picked her up in his arms and carried her to Heaven. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend to everyone that knew her. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Effie was born Nov. 21, 1911, at True, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Irvin Meadows and Nora Atkinson Meadows. She was a homemaker and attended the Lighthouse Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Henry H. Furrow; brothers, Henry and Roy Meadows; sisters, Ethel Davis, and Pauline Hobbs; son, Edwart Furrow Sr; granddaughter, Dr. Carol Imes; and two infant children. Survivors include her children, Dollie Basham and husband, Lewis of Cool Ridge, Paul Furrow and wife, Betty of Montgomery, Ala., Mollie Pack of Shady Spring, Rosemary Barcklay of Mineral Wells, Texas, Landon Furrow of Shady Spring, Cloetta Bennett and husband, Robert of Crow; John Furrow and wife, Norma of Shady Spring, Eugene Furrow and wife, Virginia of Mountain Home, Idaho; step son, Henry Furrow Jr. and wife, Ann of Corona, Calif; sister, Della Cooper of White Oak; 24 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Rose and Quesenberry Shady Spring Chapel with Pastor Larry Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in the Skaggs Cemetery at Shady Spring. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry, Shady Spring. on February 28, 2006.5
