He is survived by loving wife of 60 years; Betty C. Paxton, son and daughter-in-law; Frank M. and Lisa Paxton, daughter; Terri P. Mason, grandsons; Corey Paxton, Ben Mason, John Mason and friend Stella, sister; Leona Filkins, brother; Walton Paxton, sister; Helen Coggsdale, brother and sister-in-law; Robert Paxton (Bobby) and Peggy, brother; Glenn Paxton, brother-in-law; Paul Crawford and wife Margaret, numerous nieces and nephews, furry friend Cricket. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, July 14, 2017 at Franklin Heights Baptist Church, 110 Hilltop Drive, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Huffman Memorial Park with Dr. Stan Parris officiating. Masonic rites will be performed graveside. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Clifton Steber; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Wayne Weaver and Rebecca and Steve Laughlin; daughter-in-law, Becky Perdue Steber all of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Elizabeth Dooley, Louie Mae Thomas, Bernice Hall and Gail Hancock all of Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. Rick Castle and his wife, Lynda and Carilion Hospice, especially Dale Weddle and Robert Burnell and social worker, Debbie for their care. Memorials may be made to Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church, 3106 Red Rock Road, Roanoke, Va. 24018. Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at Oakey's North Chapel.
