Vest, 73, of Lima, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.18, 2011, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Gary was born Sept. 27, 1937, in Macomb, the son of Aubra L. and Esther (Fleming) Vest. He attended Augusta High School graduating in 1955. He was a graduate of Gem City Business College and also several schools on banking. On May 19, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carol Galloway at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage. Gary served in the U.S. Army receiving his honorable discharge on Feb. 28, 1966. Gary started his banking career at First National Bank in Carthage in April of 1961. He later was president and a 40-year employee of the State Bank of Lima, retiring in 2007. He also was a member of the Board of Directors. Gary also served as president of the Lima-Tioga Fire Protection District Board and was instrumental in the construction of the new firehouse in Lima. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage. He enjoyed woodworking, mechanics and big engines. Gary's greatest joy was his family. Gary is survived by his wife, Carol Vest of Lima; two daughters, Sarah (Gary) Donley, of Mendon, and Suzy (Gary) Holloway, of Petersburg; five grandchildren, Jill, Thomas, and Adam Donley and Grant and Olivia Holloway; a sister, Evalie (Norman) Hare, of Hannibal; a sister-in-law, Janice Carson, of Massillon, Ohio; and a brother-in-law, Dale (Edith) Galloway, of Carthage; two nephews, David Carson, of Hamilton, Ohio, and Scott Hare, of St. Louis, Mo; four nieces, Diana Hare, of Springfield, Julie (Don) Woods of Medina, Ohio, Malyssa Galloway, of DeKalb; and Jacqueline Galloway, of Macomb; and many cousins including Brian (Lynn) Fleming, of Quincy, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Cleo and Grace Galloway; and a brother-in-law, Ephriam Carson. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage with burial in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage with military rites. Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 21, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund. Printy Funeral Home in Carthage was in charge of arrangements. on January 27, 2011.3
