He was a self-employed building contractor and a member of the White Oak Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Arnita; a son, Steve Meadows of White Oak; a daughter, Melody Meadows of Quitman; his mother, Lorene Meadows of Gilmer; a grandson, Justin Lane Meadows of White Oak; and a granddaughter, Kendall Dawn Meadows of White Oak. on May 16, 1986.⁴

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Harry Preston Caldwell, with cancer, and his precious son, Dewayne Anderson Caldwell, with spinal meningitis at the age of 12 years. Steve never recovered from that loss. Steve attended Sunday School at Radford Wesleyan Church during his early childhood. In his later years, Pastor Jim Cochran ministered to Steve and recently Pastor Barry Van Steenburg prayed with Steve and received his testimony of salvation. Steve is survived by his mother, Ruth Caldwell Charlton; brothers, Tommy Caldwell and Bobby Caldwell; nephew, Randy Caldwell; niece, Amanda Caldwell; aunts, Imogene Lovern, Naomi Alderman, Wilma Alderman and Joanne Alderman; and numerous cousins survive. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at DeVilbiss Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Van Steenburg officiating. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery. on July 1, 2008.⁷
