She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Nolen; son, Jerry Elmore; sisters, Mabel Rutherford, and Oveta Cromer. She is survived by daughter, Lynn E. Foutz; grandchildren, Lester Foutz, Jr. and wife, Deanna, Charlie Elmore, Sherry Foutz and fiancé, Mitchell Paul; great-grandchildren, Jacob Foutz, Josh Mills, and Maria Foutz, Chelsea, Blake, and Olivia Elmore; and many special nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the staff at Richfield Retirement 3 East and the Gentle Shepherd Hospice. Funeral Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 at Paitsel Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Booth officiating. Interment will follow at Huffman Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. on May 18, 2015.³

     Freda Hash Freda H. Sumpter, 90, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. She was born in Ashe County to the late Mont Paul Hash, Sr. and Verna Clyde Sexton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sumpter was also predeceased by her husband, Robert Morris Sumpter; brothers, Eddie Hash, Paul Hash; and sister, Neta Vaught. Mrs. Sumpter was a retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. She was an active member of Braggtown Baptist Church. Mrs. Sumpter is survived by her daughter, Roberta S. Riley (Tim); sister, Kitty Kirk; brother, Jerry Hash (Barbara); sisters-in-law, Verna Hash and JoAnn Hash; and many nieces and nephews.      Charlene Ann Davis Charlene Furrow, 73, Minot, died on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 in a Minot hospital with her loving husband at her side. She had been struggling with diabetes and cancer for the past several years. Charlene Ann Davis was born on January 7, 1950 in Fort Totten, ND to Saul and Margaret (Jones) Davis. She was raised and educated in Minot and attended Minot State University for two years. As a young adult she was employed at a local dry-cleaning establishment and at Sykes. Charlene married Barry Furrow on December 25, 1988 at Minot Air Force Base. They made their home at MAFB and Charlene was employed at the North Dakota Department of Human Services as a mental health counselor. She retired in 1997. Charlene had attended St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. She especially enjoyed playing pool, collecting teddy bears from most states and caring for her pets. Charlene is survived by her husband of 34 years Barry; children: Vincent, Tony and Linda; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several step siblings. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, brother: August Newman and several step siblings.¹ She was born on January 7, 1950 at Fort Totten, Benson Co., North Dakota.¹ As of December 25, 1988,her married name was Furrow.² She married Barry Wayne Furrow, son of Unknown Furrow and Gladys Lillian Hale, on December 25, 1988 at Minot, Ward Co., North Dakota.^2,1 Charlene Ann Davis died on May 3, 2023 at Minot, Ward Co., North Dakota, at age 73.¹

     George Frank Carter George Frank Carter, age 92, of Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at his home. He was born May 21, 1927, to the late John Carter and Sarah Hubbard Carter in Bassett, Va. Frank was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He attended Pleasant View United Methodist Church and retired from Pittston Coal Company. Frank was a member of the St. Paul Masonic Lodge No. 343. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by nine siblings. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Loreeta Nixon Carter; son, Rex Carter of Abingdon, Va; daughter, Sheri Ellen Carter of Herndon, Va; grandson, Daxton Cole Carter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A committal service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn. Military Honors will be provided by the Boone Dam VFW Post 4933 and the United States Army.
