He had been in the hospital for the past two weeks. Mr. Headley was born in Roanoke, Va., March 29, 1908, a son of the late Edwin C. Headley and Helen Swift Headley. Mr. Headley had been living in Danville since 1954, where he was the owner and operator of Headley's Service Center, on the corner of Watson and Montague Street. He ran the Service Center for 30 years and retired at age 65. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #141 in Richmond, a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #49 in Roanoke, a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church in Roanoke, and he was a graduate of the National Business College in Roanoke. Survivors include his wife, Vergie Carr Headley, of the home; two daughters, Darlene Headley Griffin, Crozet, and Miss Janet M. Headley of the home; a son-in-law, Michael T. Griffin, Crozet; and two grandsons. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, March 23, 1994 at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton, Va., by the Rev. Walter M. Lockett Jr. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence, 155 Montague Street. Arrangements by Swicegood Funeral Home. on March 22, 1994.1

She was the youngest of 8 children born to John and Tida Carr from Bent Mountain. She grew up in Roanoke and graduated from Jefferson High School. She was the widow of E. R."Red" English, to whom she was married for 64 years. They were members of the 500 Club, the ELKs club, and numerous other social organizations. They were members of Blue Hills Golf Club where Ruby was a member of the Ladies Golf Association. She was an avid bowler at the Viking Lanes for many years. Ruby belonged to several bridge clubs and continued to play bridge until shortly before her death. She was a long time member of Grandin Court Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline; grandchildren, Garrett, Lauren, and Hunter; sister-in-law, Mildred English; and numerous nephews and nieces. Special thanks to caregiver Betty Conner and good friend and neighbor Barbara Coleman who helped Ruby to continue to live independently over the last several years. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel on Thursday December 26, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 27, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel with interment to follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on December 25, 2013.3

(Red) English, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2010, after an extended illness. He was born in Franklin County on April 16, 1920, to the late William P. and Vandalia English and moved to Roanoke as a child. He graduated from Jefferson High School and National Business College before starting a career with the Norfolk & Western Railroad. During World War II he served in the United States Navy and then returned to his career at the railroad, retiring after 42 years. He coached Little League Baseball and enjoyed golf and playing cares. Red was a member of the Elks and the Lions Club and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow award from the Lions. He was a member of Grandin Court Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruby; son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline; and grandchildren, Garrett, Lauren and Hunter. He is also survived by his brother, William P. "Penny" English; sister, Clonnie Crouch; and nephews and nieces. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at Oakey's South Chapel. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, November 29, 2010, at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131. on November 30, 2010.4

Sam was a devoted firefighter whom held many positions including starting the Locust Grove station 3 in Floyd County where he became chief, worked many years as firefighter/paramedic at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, and held many ranks including President of the southwest Virginia Fireman’s Association. In 1995 Sam moved his family to Myrtle Beach where he continued his firefighter career for the City of Myrtle Beach Fire Department. He ended his career at the rank of Lt. of fire investigator/inspector. He was past president of IAAI in South Carolina and was presented with a lifetime membership by the current president. Sam was loved by his brothers and sisters in the Fire Department and will be greatly missed.7 He and Carolyn Jane Vest were divorced.7 Samuel Dean "Sammy" Vest married Janice Unknown.7 Samuel Dean "Sammy" Vest was born on September 6, 1954 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.1,4,7,5 He married Carolyn Jane Vest, daughter of L.
