He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Etta Walters; two sisters, Myrtle Duncan, Erma Nolley and their spouses; beloved nephew, Vernon Nolley; niece, Phyllis Nolley. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Katie Walters; sister-in-law and husband, Ruby and Junior King; nephews and wives, Paul and Elfreeda Duncan, R.B. and Marilyn Duncan; niece, Wanda Nolley; special great-nephews, great-nieces and their spouses, Kimberly and Randall Nester, Corey and Susan Nolley, Shawnee and Terry Fenton, Lynette and Bryan Vest; other great-nephews, great-nieces and their spouses, Connie and Bob Walls, Gary and Rhonda Duncan, Gerald and Sharon Duncan, Martha and Gene Miller, David and Edith Anne Duncan; numerous great-great nieces and great-great nephews and many loving friends who cared for him during his time of healing and trial including his special friend, Jimmy Souther. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Huffville United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Walker and the Rev. Leon Alley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at Gardner Funeral Home, where the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd is in charge of the arrangements.

She was a resident of Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg for the past twelve years. Prior to moving there she was a life-long resident of Floyd County. She was a member of the Huffville United Methodist Church, and an affiliate member of Blacksburg United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Claude Wimmer; and a brother, Lamer Wimmer. Surviving are her sisters and brothers-in-law, Daphne McNiel, Dorothy and Lewis Meredith, Lois and Charlie Epperly, all of Christiansburg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harless and L.Z. Wimmer, Salem, Winston and Irene Wimmer, Pilot, Wesley and Diana Wimmer, Check, Ray and Marie June Wimmer, Rachel Wimmer, all of Christiansburg; 14 nieces; and 8 nephews; and a number of great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at the Huffville United Methodist Church, Floyd County, conducted by Rev. Herbert Hobbs and Rev. Richard H. Horne, with burial in the Huffville Cemetery. The body will be placed in the Huffville Church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the New River Valley Hospice, 111 West Main Street, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. The family would like to thank New River Valley Hospice for their excellent care and support. The couple, who have resided for the past 40 years on their farm in Montgomery County, have 6 children and 8 grandchildren. Their children are Sue Altizer, Pilot; Carol Clower, Roanoke; June Wallace, Issaquah, Wa; Betty McNiel, Bellevue, Wa; Dan McNiel, Pilot; and the late Mary Ann Poff. Mr. McNiel is retired from Harvey Chevrolet and Mrs. McNiel is retired from Roses Stores, Inc.
on July 14, 1991.14 She died on January 9, 2011 at Virginia at age 89.4 She Daphne Louise McNiel, 89, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Ralph McNiel; daughter, Mary Ann Poff; sister, Marie Wimmer; and brothers, Lamer, Harless, Wesley and Winston Wimmer. She is survived by her son, James Dan McNiel; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Ellen and Terry Altizer, Carol and Stan Clower, June McNiel and Frank Wallace, and Betty McNiel and Kevin Killeen; 10 grandchildren, Lance Altizer (Christine), Scott Altizer (Debbie), Suzanne Altizer Baker (Tim), Rick Clower, Janine Clower Drum (Russ), Tim Fisher Poff (Michelle), Jim Poff (Dao), Alana Killeen, Trevor Killeen and Danielle McNiel; nine greatgrandchildren; brother, Ray Wimmer (Marie June); sisters, Dorothy Meredith and Lois Epperly; and sisters-in-law, Helen Janney, LZ Wimmer and Diana Wimmer. Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2010, at Huffville Cemetery conducted by Pastor Darren Landon. Daphne requested no flowers please. Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie June Vest Wimmer; daughter, Janet Raye Wimmer; sisters, Lois Epperly and Dorothy Meredith of Christiansburg; sisters-in-law, Vera Clower, Kaula Dowdy, and Clara (Leo) Southern; brothers-in-law, L.C. Vest and LeeRoy (Carol) Vest; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ray was a very involved member of the Huffvillle United Methodist Church by singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School classes and supporting the church with his prayers and attendance. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation in 1990. He loved to bowl and enjoyed all the many friends he made bowling in the Up and At'Em Senior league. He loved to work with his flowers and mow his yard. He had managed and cared for Huffville Cemetery for many years. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many family and friends for your support and care during Ray's declining health. Also special thanks to Carilion Home Health and Carilion Hospice for the care he received over the past few months. The family received friends on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 24, 20144, at 11 a.m. at the Huffville United Methodist Church, 1078 Huffville Road, Pilot, with Pastor Darren Landon officiating. Interment will follow in Huffville Cemetery. She was a loving mother and grandmother, focusing on raising her family. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she was a member of the circle. She loved her church. She and Lewis loved to travel and took numerous bus tours. Myrtle Beach was an especially special place. Due to the present Corona Virus situation, there will be a private graveside service for immediate family on Thursday April 16, 2020. on April 15, 2020.9

Surviving are his wife, Daphne Wimmer McNiel; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Mary McNiel, Christiansburg; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Terry Altizer, Pilot; Carol and Stan Clower, Roanoke; June and Frank Wallace, Issaquah, Wash; and Betty McNiel and Kevin Killeen, Bellevue, Wash; nine grandchildren, Rick Clower, Janine Bower, Lance Altizer, Tim FisherPoff, Scott Altizer, Jim Poff, Suzanne Altizer, Alana Killeen and Trevor Killeen; two sisters, Helen Janney, Copper Hill and Irene Wimmer, Pilot. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Poff. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Saturday, January 2, 1 to 5 p.m. at the home, 4607 Fishers View Road, Pilot. No service will be held. The family has requested no flowers. Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association or the Floyd County Rescue Squad-Station 3. on January 1, 1993.2
