Joel Bernard Wilson1,2

M, b. December 2, 1853, d. January 31, 1935
Joel Bernard Wilson was buried at Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, Nuckolls Co., Nebraska.2 He Joel Bernard Wilson, son of Franklin and Mahala Maxwell Wilson, was born December 2nd, 1853, near Martinsville, Indiana and departed this life at Nelson, Nebraska January 31, 1935, aged 81 years, 1 month and 29 days. His mother died when he was seven years old. His father married again and the family moved to Osceola, Iowa in 1864. Joe, then a lad of eleven years, drove a team and wagon across the ice on the Mississippi. In the fall of 1878, Mr. Wilson moved to Nuckols County, Nebraska where he later married Margaret Orinda Littrell, and established a home there. To this union were born four children. His wife preceded him in death on April 3, 1925, and two of his grandchildren have also been called Home. Mr. Wilson is survived by his four cildren: James Franklin of Elizabeth, Colorado, Dora Nettie Schafer of Central City, Nebraska, Myrtle Josephine Basey of Grand View, Idaho, and Mrs. Gladys May Morehead of Nelson. He also leaves to mourn his departure, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of friends and relatives. Mr. Wilson and his family, in their long residence in the county, have contributed to the development of the country. They have always been substantial members of the community. For a number of years, since retiring from active life, Mr. wilson has made his home in Nelson. His keen sense of humor won for him a large circle of friends. He was always able to see the bright side of things and even during his last illness, joked with those about him. HIs courage and jovial disposition have helped many through difficulties. The deceased became a member of the OxBow Christian Church soon after it was organized. To the last days of his life, Mr. Wilson was keenly interested in affairs of the day. He was optimistic and gave much encouragement to others, who will miss him greatly. Funeral services were held on Monday afternon at two o'clock from the Nelson Christian Church Rev. Brooks, now of Ulysses, officiating. Burial was made in the Nelson Cemetery. At this time his many friends and former neighbors paid thier respect to his memory.2 He was born on December 2, 1853 at Martinsville, Morgan Co., Indiana.1,2 He married Margaret Orinda Littrell, daughter of James Littrel and Margaret Oldham, on June 21, 1879.1,2,3 Joel Bernard Wilson died on January 31, 1935 at Nelson, Nuckolls Co., Nebraska, at age 81.1,2

Minnie Peters1

F, b. July 6, 1856, d. March 8, 1929
Minnie Peters was buried at Edgar Cemetery, Edgar, Clay Co., Nebraska.1,2 She was born on July 6, 1856 at Darke Co., Ohio.1 She married Robert McConnell "Mack" Littrel, son of James Littrel and Margaret Oldham, on October 27, 1887 at Nebraska.1 As of October 27, 1887,her married name was Littrel.1 Minnie Peters died on March 8, 1929 at Angus, Nuckolls Co., Nebraska, at age 72.1 She The entire community about Angus and surrounding country was saddened when the report went forth that "Aunt Minnie Littrel had had a slight stroke and was unable to speak a word." This was Wednesday of last week and within 48 hours death had come to claim this noble woman. Minnie Peters was born in Darke county (sic), Ohio, July 6, 1856, and moved to this portion of Nebraska when only two or three years old – and lived here until her departure March 8, 1929. In 1880 she was united in marriage to Christian Wehrman and to this union were born two children, Cornelius and Rose (Basey) both of whom are resident of this community, the latter living with the parents at the mother's death. Mr. Wehrman preceded her in death June 6, 1886. Mrs. Wehrman was then married to Robert McConnell Littrel, known to all as "Uncle Max," October 27, 1887, which union was faithfully held before God and men until death severed this sweet relationship. When about 33 years of age she united with the old Oxbow Christian Church of Angus, coming from the Evangelical Church, and to this church she has ever continued a devoted, consistent and earnest member until the end. "Aunt Minnie" was of the blessed rare type of old-fashioned mothers and when her brother's children were left alone, caused by his death, her generous mother-heart reached out, even beyond her own children and home and selfish interests and she like the Savior of old said "Suffer the children to come unto me, and forbid them not." Yes, "Come unto me ye who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." And so the Peters children gladly came unto her hospitable home and mother-love – four of them: Henry, Mary, Will and Cornelius – all less than six years of age, "Neal" only a babe, and these tender children under her guidance have grown into men and women and are today among our leading citizens as living testimonials of "Aunt Minnie's" great mother-love and kind-heartedness and each of them today rise up to call her "blessed." This mother was truly a rare woman, not only the mother of Neal and Rose, her own blood, and also the four helpless Peters children, but she was mother to a host of people for when the boys from Cotner College came out for preaching as their first experience only they can tell you how helpful they found this great patient loving hearted mother of Israel, and scores of them also rise up now and called her "blessed." Yes, dear soul, we all look back to the days, many of them, when you helped, soothed, praised and encouraged each of us into trying again to give to the world and the "kingdom" the best that there was in us. May God help each of us to strive a little harder to be as thou would have us be, "more, more like Jesus." The Littrel family are truly blood related to a very large per cent of the community and to all the folk this family are definitely related as friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at the home a mile northwest of Angus, Sunday, March 10, 1929, and besides the children mentioned, she leaves to mourn her departure two grand children, and a host of other relatives, neighbors and friends. Among those who attended the funeral services from a distance were Mrs. Minnie Kely and family, Waverly, Nebr; Lizzy Brock and family of Farnam, Nebr; Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Adamson, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Littrel, and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Littrel all of Wauneta, Nebr. Rev. William D. Nice, Blue Hill, former minister of Angus and a personal friend to the family, conducted the funeral services. on March 14, 1929.1

Bertha Ellen Felton was buried at Edgar Cemetery, Edgar, Clay Co., Nebraska.3,8 She was born on April 4, 1891 at Nelson, Nuckolls Co., Nebraska.3,6,2 She married Charles John "Charlie" Ruhga on February 21, 1909 at Nebraska.3,6,1,2 As of February 21, 1909,her married name was Ruhga. Bertha Ellen Felton died on March 25, 1928 at Hastings, Adams Co., Nebraska, at age 36.3,6,1,2 She When Mrs. Charles J. Ruhga passed from this life Sunday, March 25, at the Mary Lanning memorial hospital at Hastings, the entire community at Angus was stricken with a grief that cannot be estimated or stated in mere words, for she was among the best known of this section. To her bereft family, a husband and four children, spoken words nor deeds can never fill the place she occupied, and her influence for good was ever so strong that those with whom she came in contact will ever treasure to the end of this earthly life, the precious privilege of having known her. Her little home was ever a haven of love and peace with Christ Jesus the Master of the house, and though she leaves there a vacancy that never can be filled, her splendid teachings and example will remain and be a guiding light beckoning for her husband and children to follow her to that home of many mansions prepared by Jesus for the faithful. In her profession of religion she was most faithful to the end for her confession was more than by word as it included a well-lived life that was consistent with such a declaration of confession. Ever present at all services of the church possible with her loved ones at her side, her relationship to the religious activities of the community was second to her devoted home life only. As a neighbor and a friend she was an asset to the community. The regard with which she and family were held was demonstrated by the large number attending the funeral services which were held from the Christian church of Angus Monday afternoon. Scarcely half of those present were able to find room within the church and representatives were there from all surrounding towns as well as from many distant places. The family has resided here in Nuckolls county since early pioneer days, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Geo. A. Felton being among the first residents of the county, and Mr. Felton taking an active part in the formulating of some of our early laws as a state senator. Bertha Ella Felton was born on April 4, 1891, and when 13 years of age united with the old Ox Bow Christian church. On February 21, 1909, she was united in marriage to Charlie J. Ruhga, and to this union were born three daughters: Helen Louvinia, Ilah Mae, and Evelyn Cleora, and one son Marvin Charles, whose present ages range from 7 to 16 years, and who with the husband and father survive her. Her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Felton, and five sisters, Mrs. Stanley Adamson of Wauneta, Mrs. Ira Overton of Clay Center, Mrs. E.C. Moore of Greeley, Colorado, Mrs. D.L. Kay of Marsland, and Mrs. Christian Humerickhouse of Mills City, Oregon, also survive her, and all were present except the last named, who just recently moved out west. Many other out of town friends and relatives wee present, among them the parents of Mr. Ruhga. on March 29, 1928.2
