     Douglas Neil Caviness Sr. was buried at Iredell Memorial Gardens, 2304 Shelton Avenue, Statesville, Iredell Co., North Carolina.1 He was born on February 29, 1928 at Pulaski, Pulaski Co., Virginia.2 He married Betty Lee Poff, daughter of Robert Arthur Poff and Clara Belle Atwell, on February 19, 1952 at York, York Co., South Carolina.4,3 Douglas Neil Caviness Sr. and Betty Lee Poff were divorced on September 22, 1964 at Carroll Co., Virginia.3 Douglas Neil Caviness Sr. died on May 15, 2009 at Statesville, Iredell Co., North Carolina, at age 81.2 He Douglas Neil Caviness Sr., 81, of 218 Valley Brook Lane, Troutman, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Pulaski, Va., and was the son of the late Walter Lee and Mary Via Caviness. Mr. Caviness was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II, and was a retired sewing machine mechanic with Beauty Maid Mills and J.C. Penney's. He was an active and faithful member of Beulah Heights Wesleyan Church where he was named Board Member Emeritus in recognition of his many years of service on the church's local board of administration. In addition to his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Caviness. Survivors include his wife, Shelby Cook Caviness; four daughters, Debra "Sissy" Lancaster of Roxboro, Mary "Edie" Plummer (Steve) of Troutman, Patricia Laney (Chad) of Maiden, and Sandy Cash (Jeff) of Statesville; three sons, Douglas Neil Caviness Jr. (Debbie), Jerry A. Boger (Teresa), and Bobby Boger (Beverly), all of Troutman; four brothers, Tommy Caviness of Pulaski, Va., Carl Caviness (Johnie Mae) of Mt. Airy, Ronald Caviness (Phyllis) and Wesley Caviness (Jamie), both of Martinsville, Va; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Entombment will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with full military honors being accorded by the Burial Detail of the Iredell County Veterans' Council. on May 16, 2009.2
