It was Cindy's brave heart, courageous spirit and concern for her loved ones that kept her fighting a 26-month battle with lung cancer. Even as her body wasted, her heart remained strong; on the first day of July 2009, her body finally succumbed setting her spirit free. She was born on June 16, 1959 in Beckley but had lived the past 20 years in the Lake Norman area and worked for the city of Charlotte's Utilities Department for most of that time. She loved motorcycle rides with 'her honey'; holidays with family, laughs with friends and pride in her children colored her life. Through good times and hard times, her heart remained strong. Cindy is survived in this life by her devoted husband, JW Mahurin of Mooresville; two loving children, Jen Wilson, 30, of Charlotte, Dave Wilson, 26, of Denver; parents, Bob and Patty Lilly of Coal City, WV; brother, Roger Lilly and his family of Coal City, WV; sister, Sandy Bowling and her family of Nimitz, WV; and countless friends and extended family. Through a void will be left, their hearts will remain strong. on July 3, 2009.2

Sansom, 34, of Beaver, W.Va. has been identified by city police as the man killed yesterday in a construction accident at Dunning Mills Inn on the U.S. 1 Bypass. According to a police report, Sansom was being trained to operate a 50-ton piece of heavy equipment when it went out of control. He either jumped or fell and was crushed by the rear wheels. He was pronounced dead at the scene of massive head and chest injuries. The accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. City police Lt. Richard Wright said that if Sansom had been able to stay with the stalled vehicle, he probably would not have been hurt. The truck came to rest about 30 feet from Sansom's body.
