A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Eddie's love of trucking gave him friends all over the United States. His Peterbuilt, all decked out with lights, could be seen before heard. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Heida Martin Shepherd of Tobaccoville, North Carolina; two sons, Roger Shepherd and wife Fawn of Narrows, and Michael Johnston of Tobaccoville; two daughters, Sherry Davis of Christiansburg and April Johnston of Tobaccoville; six grandchildren, Landon Shepherd, Kaydance Shepherd, Kennedy Shepherd, Addison Shepherd, Misty Albert, and Michael Fleeman; five great-grandchildren, Autumn Bowles, Shianne Lucas, Michael Dale Fleeman, Madyson Fleeman, and Makade Fleeman; a brother, Jerry Shepherd and wife Patty of Maryville, Tennessee; eight grand fur babies who loved their Paw-Paw; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of special friends. Millie Irene Crawford DRAWBOND, Millie Crawford, 89, died Tuesday, September 9, 2003, in Cameron Glen Nursing Home, Reston, Va. She was born in Monroe County, W.Va. on January 1, 1914, and was the daughter of the late John and Nannie Strather McClanahan Crawford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Drawbond; two brothers, Arlen Crawford and Ernest Crawford; and four sisters, Fannie Hylton, Ella Hylton, Allene Richardson, and Dorothy Tolbert. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Herndon, Va., since 1981, when she moved from Narrows, Va. to Herndon, Va. She was a member of the Barbara Deal Circle and also volunteered as Director of Exercise at Lake Ann Fellowship House and "Millie's Mending" at Tall Oaks Fellowship House. She was an active member of the community and was a devoted mother and grandmother. We all knew and loved her as "Granny." She is survived by her daughter and husband, Brenda and Herb Sprouse, Herndon, Va; two grandsons, Gregory and Stephen Sprouse, Herndon, Va; one granddaughter, Laura Sprouse Atkins and husband, Daniel, Greenville, S.C; one great-granddaughter, Alana Ann Atkins, Greenville, S.C; and numerous nieces and nephews. Trial of the case was started Wednesday and the jury returned their verdict shortly after 5 o'clock, Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Epling was shot to death August 15 through a window of her parent's home near the celanese plant as she lay sleep with her infant daughter. on October 4, 1939.6

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son Charles Clayton Elkins; three sisters: Myrtle Byrd, Verdie Helton and Ethel Sisk; two Brothers: Clyde Elkins and Otis Elkins; and one grandchild Serena Gail Elkins. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors are: his wife, Susie Turner Elkins; one son, George L. Elkins and wife of Diane, NC. Graveside services for Mr. Roy Clayton Elkins will be held at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charlie Brown, Bobby Jessee and Roger Griffith.6 He was born on March 18, 1926 at Whitewood, Buchanan Co., Virginia.1,7,2,3,9,5,6 He married Susie Lorine "Sue" Epling, daughter of Clarence Trinkle Epling and Hannah Elmira Kast, on July 30, 1960 at Swords Creek, Russell Co., Virginia.1,6 Roy Clayton Elkins died on September 11, 2010 at Richlands, Tazewell Co., Virginia, at age 84.7,4,9,6
