     Deborah Jean Mullins Deborah "Debbie" Jean Mullins, 67, of Belmont passed away August 7, 2023. She was born December 3, 1955 in Montgomery County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Harold Herbert Mullins and Rosa Lee Sutphin Mullins. Debbie attended New River Community College where she studied accounting. She retired after 30 years of service as a Controller of the City Club of Charlotte. She was a member of Union Road Church where she taught ladies Sunday School and served in the ladies ministry. Debbie also served as a Core Leader and as a Teaching Director of Gastonia Women's Eve Community Bible Study for over 10 years. She led a summer Bible study as well. Debbie is survived by her maternal aunts, Gloeda Gay Sutphin Alderman of Dublin, VA, and Shelbie Marie Marenka (George) of Lanham, Maryland; paternal aunts, Carol Wood Atkinson of Montgomery County, VA, and Brenda Mullins Waddell of Kentucky; special friend, Paula Dean and family; stepdaughter, Lisa Mountjoy; stepgrandson, Jeremy Ingraham; amazon parrot, Birdie Purdy; and numerous friends and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Arthur and Lucille Mullins; maternal grandparents, Russell D. Sutphin and Hallie Mae Reece Sutphin; uncles, Ersell Alderman, Ernest Waddell, and William Glendon Sutphin (Ellen Sanford Sutphin); aunt, Patty Mae Sutphin Gibbs (Robert Edward Gibbs); and beloved companion, Josie.⁵ She was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, 1462 Armstrong Ford Road, Belmont, Gaston Co., North Carolina.⁶ She was born on December 3, 1955 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.^2,3,4,6,5 As of April 27, 1975,her married name was Nixon.² She married Anthony Eugene Nixon on April 27, 1975 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.² Deborah Jean Mullins and Anthony Eugene Nixon were divorced on November 9, 1978 at Radford, Virginia.³ As of December 22, 1978,her married name was Dobbins.² Deborah Jean Mullins married Gary Lynn Dobbins on December 22, 1978 at Radford, Virginia.² Deborah Jean Mullins and Gary Lynn Dobbins were divorced on August 18, 2004 at Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina.⁷ Deborah Jean Mullins died on August 7, 2023 at Gaston Co., North Carolina, at age 67.^6,5

     Garland Calvin Atkinson Garland C. Atkinson, 85, of Christiansburg, passed away on April 4, 2016. He was born on June 8, 1930, in Shawsville, Va. He worked at Radford Army Ammunition Plant for 36 years and served as a foreman in the NG area. He was a faithful member of Faith Christian Church for over 20 years and served as a deacon and elder. He has been a member of Alleghany Church of Christ for 4 ½ years. Garland was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Pauline N. Atkinson; and parents, Robert E. and Lucy Atkinson. He is survived by his wife of 4 ½ years, Carol Wood; daughter, Sandy A. Bland and son-in-law, James E. Bland, Jr; two grandchildren, Laura B. Smith and husband Andy Smith, Dr. James Travis Bland and wife Kristal N. Bland; two great-grandchildren, Kinsey N. Bland and Kylie D. Bland; three step-children, Bently Wood, Karen Hanley, and Michelle Rhoads and husband Roger; four step-grandchildren, Andreanna and Chris Harris, Joseph and Kristina Walker, Chelsea Wood, Bailey Wood, Danielle Witcher, and Joshua Hocker; and two step-great-grandchildren, Illiana Walker and Lynnette Harris. He is also survived by nine brothers and sisters, Howard and Linda Atkinson, Jack and Betty Atkinson, Vivian and Dale Semones, Dick and Kaye Atkinson, Phyllis and James Epperly, Mack Atkinson, Allen and Corrine Atkinson, Connie Hall, Debbie and Robert Belcher; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Garland will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Carilion Hospice caregivers and the Lewis Gale Montgomery doctors and nurses for their care of Garland.      Gary Lynn Dobbins was buried at Highland Memory Gardens, 5555 Lee Highway, Dublin, Pulaski Co., Virginia.² He was born on August 1, 1953 at Radford, Virginia.^1,2,3 He married Deborah Jean Mullins, daughter of Harold Herbert Mullens and Rosa Vestalee Sutphin, on December 22, 1978 at Radford, Virginia.¹ Gary Lynn Dobbins and Deborah Jean Mullins were divorced on August 18, 2004 at Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina.⁶ Gary Lynn Dobbins died on October 8, 2009 at Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 56.^2,4,5 He Gary Lynn Dobbins, 56, of Floyd, Va. and Charlotte, N.C., passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009. Gary was an avid sportsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors and riding his Harley. He loved experiencing the joy of reaching out and helping Haitian's on his mission trips to Haiti. He was preceded in death by his son, Greg Dobbins; father, Ed Dobbins; mother, Mary Dobbins Beckner; paternal grandparents, Joe and Freeda Dobbins. He is survived by wife, Tami Dobbins; daughter, Lisa Dobbins Mountjoy; grandson, Jeremie Ingram; granddaughter, Mazzy Price; special sons, Arthur Porter, Jacob Porter; sister and brother-in-law, Terry Dobbins and J. Wayne Vaughan; niece, Meagan Vaughan; and beloved pet, Buddy. on October 10, 2009.⁵

     Joyce Ann Archie was buried at Flat Top Cemetery, Flat Top, Mercer Co., West Virginia.⁶ Her Social Security Number was 235-66-9308.⁷ She Joyce Ann Epling, 71, of Concord, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at her home. Burial will be held in Flat Top West Virginia on Friday, March 29, 2013. Mrs. Epling was born October 13, 1941 in Mercer County, WV to the late Mirriam Archie and Mildred Martin Archie. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Gene Archie. Joyce's voice was like a bird. Her noteworthy achievements, that we were all proud of was her love of her music. She played bass guitar at the Senior Center with her husband. She loved reading, and watching the cooking channel. More than anything Joyce loved being with her family. She is survived by her husband, Carl C. Epling of the home; sons, Carl Epling and wife Diana of Harrisburg, NC, and Steven Edward Epling and wife Lorie of Indian Land, SC; brothers, Anthony Archie and Colin Archie both of Ohio; grandchildren, Joshua Garrett Epling of Harrisburg, NC and Ryan Edward Epling, Indian Land, SC.³ She was born on October 13, 1941 at Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.^2,6,7,3 As of March 5, 1961,her married name was Epling.² She married Carl Clyde Epling on March 5, 1961 at Flat Top, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.^2,3,4,5 Joyce Ann Archie died on March 25, 2013 at Concord, Cabarrus Co., North Carolina, at age 71.^6,7,3

Archie, born August 10, 1945 to Merriman and Mildred Archie, of East Gulf, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at Akron General Medical Center on January 25th, 2009. After moving to Ohio he was employed by Chrysler Corporation for 33 1/2 years. While there he held many jobs. The one thing he was most proud of was being a member of the Bailer Boys. Retiring because of declining health, he was able to enjoy a few good years. Preceded in death by his father, Merriman, he leaves his mother; Mildred; sister; Joyce Epling (Carl); brothers, Anthony (Lois), Colin (Corliss); uncle, Bill Martin (Margaret); and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Gene will be sadly missed by both his relatives and friends. on March 6, 2009.²

She was born July 25, 1947, in Fireco, W.Va., the daughter of Ernie and Ocie McKinney Meadows. She was preceded in death by her father Ernie and stepfather, Albert Brown; brother, John Meadows; brother-in-law Gene Archie. Corliss is survived by her husband of 40 years Colin; daughter Sarah Koval (Shawn); grandchildren, Kriston Kandel, Heather Kandel and Lil Shawn Koval II; mother Ocie Stone; brothers, Edward (Ada) McKinney, Ernest (Judy) Meadows, Franklin Meadows; mother-in-law, Mildred Archie; brother-in-law, Anthony (Lois) Archie; sister-in-law, Joyce (Carl) Epling; many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Lewis Graham Cemetery. She was a homemaker, mother, best friend, Drivers Ed teacher, softball coach and beautician. Everything she did, she did with love.
