     Dr. James Allen Wharton was buried at Warren Wilson College Cemetery, Swannanoa, Buncombe Co., North Carolina.5,6 His Social Security Number was 456-30-3407.7 He was born on November 10, 1927 at Bulape, Du Kasai, Belgian Congo.7,3,8,5,6 He married Charlotte Page Mickey, daughter of Samuel Waite Mickey and India Almena Smith, on September 7, 1949 at Travis Co., Texas.1,2,4,6,9 Dr. James Allen Wharton died on October 19, 2012 at North Carolina at age 84.7,5,6 He Dr. James Allen Wharton of Black Mountain, N.C., died peacefully on October 19, 2012. He was born November 10, 1927 in the Belgian Congo to Presbyterian Missionaries, Dr. Conway T. and Ethel Taylor Wharton. Dr. Wharton graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas, receiving his B.D. degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1951. He was awarded the Th.D. degree from the University of Basel, Switzerland, and undertook additional graduate studies at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, the University of Gottingen, Germany, and the American School of Oriental Research in Jerusalem. He also received an honorary D.D. degree from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Dr. Wharton was Professor of Old Testament at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary from 1956 until 1975, and was Senior Pastor of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas, from 1975 to 1985. From 1985 until retirement in 1996, he was Professor of Homiletics at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He was a member of the General Assembly Ad Interim Committee on a New Confession of Faith. He wrote many articles and studies for numerous theological journals and books and published a commentary on the Old Testament Book of Job in 1997. He traveled widely abroad and in the U.S. lecturing and preaching. In 1949, Jim married his beloved wife of 63 years, Charlotte Page Mickey Wharton, and is survived by Charlotte and his loving children and grandchildren: David Bruce and Julia Amory, James Waite and Katherine Maria, Robert Lawrence and Diane Headley, Sarah Amory, Samuel Clark, Jacob Turner, Sydney Page and Taylor Christine. In retirement Dr. Wharton was active at Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church in Swannanoa, N.C. He will be buried in Warren Wilson cemetery in the mountains he loved. on October 28, 2012.6
