Rita Laura Walters Rita Laura Williams, 81, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Born in Pulaski, Virginia on August 4, 1939, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Williams; brother, Garland Walters; sister, Edith Bayse; and special parents, Jack and Iva Laprad. Rita was a loving mother and grandmother who greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a gift for raising plants and took great pride in each one she cultivated and helped to thrive. Technology fascinated her, and she became quite skilled at navigating the internet – she was very tech savvy for her age. She was also fond of the many friendships made during her 24-year career at General Electric. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Katherine (Scott) Shrewsbury, of Daleville, Va., Richard (Tina) Viar, of Fincastle, Va., and Teresa (Chris) Sowers, of Roanoke, Va; grandchildren, Teresa (Ted), Jeremy, Mary (David), Nathan, Barret (Ginni), and Kathlyn (Christopher); three great-grandchildren; aunts, Alma Hill and Sylvia Lemon; sister-in-law, Opal Walters; nephew, Jack Hobbs; as well as special friend, Bonnie Nicholson. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate care given by the staff of 10 South, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, to Rita and her family.3 She was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.4 She was born on August 4, 1939 at Pulaski, Pulaski Co., Virginia.1,2,3 As of October 14, 1955,her married name was Viar.1 She married William Richard Viar, son of William Clarence Viar and Lake Oma Akers, on October 14, 1955 at Gaffney, Cherokee Co., South Carolina.1 Rita Laura Walters and William Richard Viar were divorced on March 27, 1968 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.1 Rita Laura Walters died on July 13, 2021 at Virginia at age 81.3

Frances Lou Johnson was born on October 29, 1959 at Roanoke, Virginia.2,3,4 As of February 11, 1978,her married name was Viar.1 She married Richard Nathan Viar, son of William Richard Viar and Rita Laura Walters, on February 11, 1978 at Leaksville, Rockingham Co., North Carolina.1 Frances Lou Johnson and Richard Nathan Viar were divorced on April 2, 1993 at Roanoke, Virginia.2 Frances Lou Johnson died on September 24, 2022 at Virginia at age 62.4 She Frances Lou Johnson, Oct 29, 1959 - Sep 24, 2022. Frances Lou Johnson was carried to heaven by the angels on September 24, 2022. Though we will miss her sparkling eyes and ability to keep us on our toes and often laughing, we celebrate her reunion with loved ones. She was predeceased by loving parents, Basil and Frances Johnson; and very special sisters, Emily Naff and Deborah S. Johnson. Lou also joins her mother-in-law, Rita Williams, who cherished her. Lou is survived by her son whom she loved dearly, Nathan L. A. Viar. Nathan brought much joy to his mother through diligent, loving care, this year. She leaves behind three precious grandchildren, Landon Wheeler, Declan Viar, and Larkin Viar. Lou is also survived by siblings, Tom Johnson (Carrie) and Nancy Shaver (Dennis); along with much adored nieces and nephews, Cody Wade, Trevor Johnson, Amber Rae Johnson, Mauri Shaver, Mallori Shaver, and a host of adorable great nieces and great nephews. Lou was a breast cancer survivor and left an indelible print on the world and the hearts of those who knew and loved her. on October 9, 2022.4
