William Monroe Akers was buried at Evergreen Burial Park, 1307 Summit Ave SW, Roanoke, Virginia.3 He It is with great sadness that the family of William M. "Bill" Akers, 73, of Cloverdale, Virginia announces his unexpected passing on Saturday, October 9, 2021. He was born June 21, 1948 in Roanoke, Virginia and is the son of the late Gaither L. and Claudia W. Akers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Robert J. Johnson and wife Nancy L. Johnson and brother in law George G. Goodykoontz. Those left to cherish the wonderful memories are wife of 39 years, Julia G. Akers, of Cloverdale; daughter and "his baby girl", Brittney Akers Bryant and son in law, Brad Bryant along with grandchildren Brayden and Brynnan Bryant, all of Troutville, VA. Sister Carolyn Goodykoontz of Roanoke, Virginia and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friends June Gregory and Roger Thompson of Roanoke, Virginia and favorite "side-kick", Tanya Strickler of Cloverdale, Virginia. As a dear friend so aptly put it, "To know Bill, was to love Bill." Bill was employed by General Electric holding numerous positions before retiring with 40 years of service in 2008. He was a loving and devoted husband, daddy, and grandfather lovingly known as "Bop" to his grandson, Brayden and granddaughter, Brynnan. After retirement, Bill enjoyed weekly golf with his General Electric friends.
