She was born to the late Wade Reed and Lattie Elmore Reed on November 18, 1935. Joy married Franklin R. Sargent on November 10, 1952 in Tazewell, Virginia. The love of family and friends were Joy's specialty. She grew up right here in Mercer county nurtured by loving parents, and she passed that passion on to her loved ones throughout her life in splendid fashion. No one was a stranger to Joy and she had an amazing ability to bring people together while always being the life of the party. An avid bowler for over forty years, Joy was very active in spearheading leagues and tournaments as a member of the Women's International Bowling Congress (WIBC). She was even given special recognition from the WIBC for attending twenty-five consecutive annual national tournaments held at various locations around the USA. She had a competitive spirit that served her well, not only with bowling, but with any challenge she faced. That spirit shined on countless occasions throughout her life as she successfully and tirelessly tackled benevolent causes for the various organizations she was involved with such as The Easter Star, The Moose Club, School PTOs, etc. Above all, Joy was as world-class homemaker. She excelled at being a wife and mother even as her home was uprooted often due to the relocation requirements of being a military spouse. Throughout the twenty-two year Air Force career of her husband Frank, she always succeeded in maintaining a clean, safe and loving home for her family - wherever that place may be. Fortunately, the last assignment led Joy and her family right back home to Mercer county in 1969 where she was finally able to truly make a homestead in a house that has seen the best of what family is all about. Joy, along with Frank raised three children who wanted for nothing and will always be proud to call that wonderful place their home. Joy is survived by her husband Frank Sargent; daughter Donna Watkins; son Greg Sargent and wife Marta; grandson Randall Watkins and wife Elizabeth; grandson Heath Watkins and wife Amy; granddaughter Robin (Girl) Sargent; great grandchildren (Sugar) Kane Watkins, Kaitlynn Watkins, Logan Watkins, Ethan Watkins, Kyla Watkins and Cierra Watkins; brother Larry Reed and wife JoAnn; and sister Esther Ohlrich and husband Karl. She is predeceased by her parents Wade and Lattie Reed; brother Rodney Reed, and son Brian Sargent. on March 22, 2013.2
